This nor his final two films (assuming he sticks to his repeated statement that he's only making 10) will be as bad as Death Proof. That I'm sure of.

I thought it was a pretty solid deconstruction of slasher tropes, I liked the Grindhouse cut a lot.

Re: The Hateful Eight (2015, D: Tarantino)

If Death Proof had been released as a standalone film or played before Planet Terror it would have gotten better reviews. I love the film but will only watch one or the other at any given time. Death Proof loses momentum, because Planet Terror is relentless, if you watch them as a double feature.

Bought my tickets for the 70mm Roadshow showing (early Sat morning because of a busy schedule this weekend). Tickets were $4.50 each on Fandango, which seems very much like a misprice, but I'm not complaining.

That's how I felt the first time I saw them. But on subsequent viewings, Planet Terror gets worse and almost boring, whereas Death Proof improves and gets more interesting.

Is this a movie you should pre-order tickets for? I don't see this being sold out x-mas day.

In PDX, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and the 26th are all sold out (there might be a few 10:00am tickets left on the 25th). Granted we have a true Cinerama scale 70mm screen, but still, it's a big theater and it's $15 a ticket.

The two busiest days of the year for movie going (not counting massive openings like Star Wars and Jurassic World's first days) are Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Sounds more giallo than Western:

Certainly fits in with the "More murder/mystery than Western" comments/reviews that have been popping up.

Death Proof is great. Fuck you lot who don't like it. Great character play. I enjoy the extended one mostly for the dance bit.

Reservoir Dogs is great character play. Pulp Fiction is great character play. Death Proof does not have that.

Death Proof is the only Tarantino film I care for. As someone who generally can't stand his work, I was pleasantly surprised by it.

I like the black and white intro more. It really sells the dread. That shots of the car just idling on the street before it peels off is quite scary.

which greater LA theater is the best or bigger screen (not occupied by Star Wars) to see this movie at? burbank's the closest to me but are they saving their big screens for Star Wars?

Out of those - I'd say the Sherman Oaks one is. I could have gone with the Hollywood one but then remembered that Sherman Oaks has newer and much larger screens. Hateful Eight is playing on one the larger ones - possibly the one that has ATMOS.

I'll be at the Sherman Oaks one next week.

Seeing this in 70mm tomorrow at Noon!

I was thinking about seeing it tonight in San Francisco, but I thought I was going to be on a date.

She gave me her number and told me she'd be around during the holidays, to let her know when I was free to meet-up for a drink.

Today & half of tomorrow are the only days I'm free until Sunday, she hasn't got back to me yet.

Oh well, still seeing this film twice in 70mm between now and Sunday

Re: The Hateful Eight (2015, D: Tarantino)

No review thread yet? Because that was a fucking chore to sit through. Just finished seeing it in 70mm here at the Drafthouse Ritz. The short review is that for me, it's his best looking movie, and it's also his worst in terms of dialogue and story. And I also realized I really don't like Walter Goggins in anything.
