The Hateful Eight (2015, D: Tarantino)

Quentin Tarantino is returning to familiar territory for his next film. No we won't be getting Kill Bill Vol. 3.

"I haven't told anyone this publicly, but I will say the genre: It's a western," Tarantino told Jay Leno on Tuesday's The Tonight Show. The writer-director added it would not be a sequel to Django Unchained, which earned him a screenwriting Oscar.
"I had so much fun doing Django, and I love westerns so much that after I taught myself how to make one, it's like 'OK! Let me make another one now that I know what I'm doing," Tarantino said.
Think we'll get Waltz for a 3rd time?

Re: Another Western from Tarantino (Confirmed)

Tarantino is coming dangerously close to becoming stale. He really needs to reinvent himself at this point. another wink wink revenge spaghetti western could be his downfall. I really hope he brings something fresh and new to the table.

That certainly seems confirmed.

It could be a Western-Musical.

It should be a western-found footage film

Then it'd also be a silent film. And now I suddenly want to see that happen (albeit as a short).

Hmmm a series of shorts based on "found footage" throughout history. Could be interesting.

Exactly. Basically taking place during different key points in Western expansion. Like raw footage of what would eventually become news reels or footage taken by speculators.

His next film was supposed to be Kill Bill Vol. 3, so I'll gladly take this. He never said it would be a revenge spaghetti Western. Who knows what direction he'll take it.

Pretty much all of his films deal with revenge in some fashion or another.

Stale... right. I mean, it's not as if he started his career doing three top-shelf crime dramas in a row or anything.

Re: Another Western from Tarantino (Confirmed)

I was wondering about that comic. So it's the original script we read or what?

Re: Another Western from Tarantino (Confirmed)

I heard it has more "big budget" stuff that couldn't be in the movie. But I'm not certain whether it's exactly like the script; it's written by Reginald Hudlin so that's not the best sign. I thought it already came out last year, but I'm guessing this is the collected edition.

Re: Another Western from Tarantino (Confirmed)

I'm down for another western from Tarantino. I hope he has some of the older TV actors from DJANGO, back on board, e.g. Don Johnson, Michael Parks, Lee Horsley, Tom Wopat, et al, not to mention Franco Nero. And why not some other veterans of Italian westerns, e.g. Tomas Milian, Tony Musante, John Saxon, Henry Silva, Richard Harrison, et al. And a cameo from Eastwood!

If that's the case, we got a teaser of it in that one scene in Django Unchained.

I never believe anything Tarantino says he's going to work on until he starts filming.

I more than willing to bet it's a western with a female lead.

I'd like that. We don't have enough badass ladies in good action scenes here in this shithole drain of good action.

Yeah, after Kill Bill, wasn't he talking about shooting a Kung-Fu film in Mandarin? Nothing ever came of that. Ironic that QT would be so heavily influenced by Hong Kong cinema, but work for the Weinsteins, who've done more to butcher it than almost anyone else.

Re: Another Western from Tarantino (Confirmed)

Inglourious Basterds was on the back-burner for what feels like eons, until production just kind of started and it was shot and done and out within a short amount of time.

Django seemed to have come out pretty quick in comparison to IB.
