I guess if it drops on a Thursday they stick to the actual release time. The page does have an advertised time. I don’t think I’ve noticed that before.

Good take on the “Walking Tall” story.
It’s fun to watch entitled Floridian brohs fight it out.

It was fine. I like Gyllenhaal and thought he was good in the role. Some decent fights... beyond that... eh.
McGregor was awful. There's no sex...and nobody got their throat ripped out.

Meh... feels like there's no stakes with Frankie. Like the original, as corny as it was, showed what kind of person the Ben Gazzara Brad Wesley was and how he controls the town. In this, he's just a spoiled Fla frat bro. Like what does Frankie have to lose, felt like she could just be bought out. And the romance with the Doc seemed forced. It was more of a fling. Connor wasn't very good and maybe another former UFC guy like Bisping would have been better?

I just rewatched the original the other night which is dumb fun. This one was just...dumb.
This had none of the charm of the original, everything seemed forced (including the humor), McGregor was unwatchable and as was said above, there were zero stakes.
And somehow the 1989 version had better action. Dalton slapped a few guys at the beginning, got into a fight with McGregor (the bar fight was so stupid), then another fight with McGregor. And that was pretty much it.
The original is fun to revisit but I'll never watch this again. Straight to streaming was 100% the right choice. This would have BOMBED at the box office.
The only redeeming part was him driving everyone to the hospital at the beginning. That was genuinely funny and unexpected.

This was petty fun. Never saw the original for comparison.
I will say it seemed out of character once he went back to the compound and took the boat.
Also, just kind of ended and fizzled out. Wife turned and said, “wait, that’s it?!” Honestly could have benefited from an extra 10-15 minutes. Need more connection with the book store, and why I should care about the bar.
However, post credit - sequel?!

This was just…ok.
Gyllenhaal killed it. He definitely holds this movie together. There were some creative, if somewhat distracting, camera shots that I enjoyed but everything else was just meh.
I also can’t recall another movie where such a quality lead actor was surrounded by so many shitty supporting actors. Everyone from his love interest to the Road House staff to the town locals to the cops to the henchmen were some of the worst actors I’ve seen in a mainstream movie! Giving Gyllenhaal SOMEBODY to work with may have helped my enjoyment a little.
I also liked how the bad guy kept talking about how he and his father built the town and made it what it was yet literally the only parts of “town” we see are the Road House, and a shitty little strip mall by the bus stop. What exactly did these developers build?!

To be fair, the original had the bar with an auto parts store next to it, a diner and a car dealership.

Just watched it. The fight scenes and action were pretty fun. Some interesting camera movement during those parts. Gyllenhaal was good. The bad guys and their plot were underdeveloped. I was disappointed there was no equivalent to the Sam Elliott character from the original. McGregor was way too over-the-top cartoonish. I haven't seen Jessica Williams in anything in a while, but her role was kind of flat. Overall I'd say it was worth a watch for the fight scenes and for Gyllenhaal.

It wasn't a good movie, but it was certainly a good bad movie, and that counts for something. I was never bored and I always enjoy Billy Magnussen in villain roles. I've had worse Saturday night entertainments.

Yeah this movie is shit, but like, HBO Friday Night Movie shit. Bad but watchable, terrible but not boring.

It’s to be expected in this movie but I always get a kick out of the old movie cliché where a bar fight starts and everyone spontaneously stands up and punches the person sitting next to them.

Those have to be the most dedicated musicians on the planet because I know I'd say "Fuck this!" and walk right off stage.

Also, I assume those were all local bands playing in the movie? They were all really good!

I think they got the characterization of mindless goons right. I’ve run into the type in real life.

Also I couldn’t tell if they were mocking the testosterone boosted hypermasculinity and Florida broh characterizations. Or if they’re trying to appeal to it.

I just saw the trailer and wondered if it was one of those fake trailers for a fake movie until I saw the title credit.
