Re: RIP Ed Lauter
He was one of my favorite character actors. I spent a while talking to him at a convention a few years ago and the guy was a class act. So many memorable roles. I loved him in Death Wish III, among others.

Re: RIP Ed Lauter
One of the greats.
The first time I remember seeing him was in Cujo. He really struck me because it seemed like one of my friend's dads had just walked into the movie, sat down, and started eating dinner. He was a perfect everyman... the grease monkey at the filling station who checks your oil, the retired staff sergeant, the junior high football coach, the blue collar joe who's at the local diner every morning drinking coffee and reading the paper. He was one of those rare character actors who commanded the screen and could hold his own against any leading man.

What a real shame. He was very good. Never would have guessed he was 74.

Great actor that never got the recognition he deserved. As i write this i just remembered he was in true Romance. Death Wish III is the one that sticks in my mind though, and correct me if i am wrong...but wasn't he in Stir Crazy.

Re: RIP Ed Lauter
Very sad news. Lauter was great and always seemed to lift a movie in my mind whenever he showed up.
I think I last saw him in the Showtime series Shameless. I think the earliest movie I recall seeing him was The Last American Hero w/ Jeff Bridges. Real Genius, DW III and Cujo were already mentioned, but as far as the 80s go, I fondly remember him popping up in Raw Deal and Gleaming the Cube.

Great actor. I saw him in an incredible string of movies in the 1970s:
THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN RIDE (1972)
THE NEW CENTURIONS (1972)
HICKEY & BOGGS (1972)
BAD COMPANY (1972)
RAGE (1972)
THE LAST AMERICAN HERO (1973)
EXECUTIVE ACTION (1973)
THE LONGEST YARD (1974)
FRENCH CONNECTION II (1975)
FAMILY PLOT (1976)
KING KONG (1976)
...but since then, only a handful of films in the '80s and '90s and then, after MULHOLLAND FALLS (1995), nothing until the last one I saw, THE ARTIST (2011). But he never stopped working.

Re: RIP Ed Lauter
I remember him in the role of a grieving father in an episode of Star Trek TNG ("The First Duty"). His fine acting really drove home the drama of that exceptional episode.
