No change of heart here ... Jim Carey sucked ass before and he still sucks ass now. I found it completely disgusting how he took an unrelated movie and tied it to the Sandy Hook tragedy for the simple purpose of drawing attention to himself. The guy was never funny and is completely classless.

Do we count movies that were going for melodrama and turned into outright camp classics? Valley of the Dolls, Mommie Dearest, etc. I would mention Showgirls, but it has so many over the top lines that it's hard to believe they weren't aiming for satire from the get go. While Jessie Spano might have had her dreams of A-list stardom destroyed by it, Gina Gershon's performance indicates she knew exactly the type of movie she was in.

Tommy Wiseau fooled most of the cast into thinking they were making a serious dramatic film. They didn't realize they were actually making a "quirky black comedy" until well after the film had been released.

Sean Penn said Tree of Life was the best script he'd ever read. But the film ended up being nothing like it.

I'm sure Vic Morrow expected The Twilight Zone to turn out differently than it did.

from imdb trivia for the original Carrie (this counts)
Nancy Allen claims that she never realized that her character was going to be so evil until she saw the finished film, she thought that she and John Travolta were playing such self-centered, bickering morons that they were there for comic relief. Piper Laurie also thought that the character of Margaret White was so over the top that the film had to be a comedy.

Do we know that Wiseau wasn't trying to make a serious dramatic film, and failed?

The king of this scenario is Kyle Maclachlan. Supposedly he was found banging his fist against a wall outside a showing of Showgirls crying "I thought it was an art film!"
Also, most of the cast & crew involved with the first Star Wars movie thought they were making the dumbest movie ever.

Pretty Woman - wasn't it some sort of thriller before the scissors were taken to it?
Starship Troopers - suspect most of the cast thought (and probably still think) that it was a straightforward action movie upholding the fascist ideal.

Cusack did seem to soften his stance on ‘Better Off’ during a recent Reddit AMA, saying he thought the film “could have been better” but that he’s “glad people still love it.”
