The Last Days on Mars (2013 , Schreiber, Koteas)

Another nice looking horror/sci-fi with a good cast. I love scary space movies. Thoughts?

If someone wants to embed that for me...

Re: The Last Days on Mars (2013 , Schreiber, Koteas)

So I'm watching the Credits roll now. Why can I say? It's a good year for Space Thrillers. I liked this a lot. Good cast. Feels a little bit like 28 Days Later on Mars.... which isn't a bad thing.

They don't delve too deep into the "whys" of everything, but its a pretty straight forward movie, and I was able to enjoy the ride without any plot devices bugging me.

While it falls into that "space thriller" genre, it couldn't be more different than the other two worthwhile space flicks this year (Europa Report and Gravity). All great for different reasons.

FYI, I rented this for $7 on VUDU.

Now, there's a space movie with Christian Slater on the moon or something... I don't want to ruin my awesome streak.

Its nothing like Aliens. Not movie of the year, but definitely worth a watch if you like the genre. I liked it.

Although certainly not shot-for-shot, I do see certain parallels to Alien (which I assume is the movie Mr. Salty really meant). However, the trailer makes it seem well done and therefor I am intrigued.

I can see those parallels to Alien. And that's fine. But it seems different enough from it that it does intrigue. I really dig the cast in this type of setting which is what attracts me more.

Let's hope it's more like Alien and less like Prometheus.

Well it looks like we don't got some tough ass geologist that pussies out immediately and a zoologist that is stupid as fuck. So..that's a good sign, no?

Everyone is pretty on the ball. You got one "too excited" scientist that kinda kicks it all off, but given the discovery, its understandable.

I'm watching the Slater movie Stranded.... streak terminated... Stick with Last Days on Mars. I'm doing this for you fine folks.

Edit: Heehee, this Stranded movie is pretty hilarious. Might have to recommend this on the absurdity of it alone. I'm talking space-bacteria-baby crazy.

I watched this last night and was thoroughly entertained! Great effects and good performances by Liev Schreiber, Romola Garai, and Olivia Williams.

I was actually caught off guard that this would have
Spoiler:
martian zombies,
but it worked.

The Blu-ray looks and sounds fantastic.

Re: The Last Days on Mars (2013 , Schreiber, Koteas)

I saw this recently as well. I vaguely remember some reviews back in December trashing the film, but it was a decent sci-fi/horror genre pic. Very Alien-esque ... if you substitute space truckers and an Alien with scientists and a parasite, the two films are identical in many ways.

3.5 out of 5.

I've posted a full review here.

Got this from Redbox last night and really enjoyed it. I went into it almost totally blind except knowing that "something bad happens". So I was surprised when

Spoiler:
he pulls the helmet off the guy and we get to see our first look at the lovely black skeleton looking face.

Yep, I watched this with some friends and we all let out a "oh shit" in unison. We knew we were in for some cool shit from that point on!
