Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014, Scott) S: Bale, Paul, Edgerton, Weaver, Kingsley

Didacticism aside, the DeMille film feels dated as hell now, I suppose that's part of its kitschy charm, but it feels very stagey and static, even by 1956 standards. Bridge On the River Kwai came out the following year and has held up excellently, and still feels amazingly fresh.

Watching in 10 minutes. In 3D. Didn't know or remember it was in 3D. Post convert or native?

The only movies of his since "Blade Runner" worth a damn are "Matchstick Men" and "The Counselor."

Not a fan of Kingdom of Heaven (DC)?
I'd also argue that Legend (DC) is totally with it too.

I still think Hannibal is an excellent black comedy. And Black Hawk Down was fantastic.
Robin Hood DC is alright, King of Heaven DC is also alright. Turns out I'm not as "into" historic epics as I used to be, though Exodus looks fun at least.

I agree, everything else is mediocre or straight up garbage. His directing skills are like the "dumb blonde" stereotype. He should take lessons from David Fincher on how to choose a good screenplay.

the first hour features atrocious editing. (deja vu 'Kingdom of Heaven' initial theatrical impression).
acting is lifeless.
good 3D and okay Dolby Atmos mix (pretty standard if you ask me).

Kingdom of Heaven's Director's Cut elevated the film from the theatrical from a 2 to an 8 for me. I'll wait for a potential DC of Exodus.

Kingdom of Heaven's Director's Cut elevated the film from a 1 to a 2 (out of 10) for me. When a movie has a bad script (and a bad lead actor to boot), no editing in the world can save it.

Saw it. Visuals were good as is typical for Scott, but other than that this was a big old bunch of "meh." I didn't really care for the characters, the story seemed scattershot, and the casting was atrocious and most actors went to waste in their roles. Weaver had about three lines, and Aaron Paul did little more than stand around and look at Moses like he was crazy. I was hoping Scott was up his game a bit, but he didn't. What's really frustrating is that whenever it gets to visual sequences, his movies are really good, but he seems to have gotten to where he doesn't care about anything other than those anymore.
On a side note, did anyone else notice the Gladiator connection between Rameses and Commodus with the need to be loved? I think they even both said "he sleeps so well because he is loved" line.

I liked it. It was just kind of.... soulless in a way. The "epilogue" or whatever to the bulk of the film's main narrative point was awkward. Like..it just...was added onto it cuz Scott didn't know exactly wtf to do.
I liked it enough to buy on BD for Black Friday. A lot of wasted cast potential. I thought that was Aaron Paul but didn't think it was him cuz it was like... random to see him in there. Thought I liked the whole god fucking shit up. That was neat. Biblical epic that it is, I thought Noah was much original in telling its story than this one. This one treaded too much into the the standard telling of itself in a way.

I'll have to see that one someday. It didn't really grab my attention w/ the trailers. That and.... I'm not in for Robin Hood. Was there a good amount of change in the Unrated (DC?) cut?

Robin Hood was more of a brutal swordsman in this. I never did see the theatrical cut, so I don't know. What I do know is that there was plenty of blood and a really cool and slimy performance by Mark Strong. Strong is the man, yo!

Didn't know Strong was in that. He does really good even in bad movies. Shiiiiiiite, he was the best thing in the Green Lantern film.
Is there a bad Mark Strong role?

Shiiiiiiiite. Guess I need to see that one too. I tend to like Scott films, even the super flawed Prometheus...*hears Supermallet scream in rage*
But Body of Lies and Robin Hood didn't attract me. BoL worth getting on BD?
