Eileen Brennan, the veteran actress perhaps best known for her role as the good-hearted Texas waitress in Peter Bogdanovich’s The Last Picture Show, has died. She was 80. Brennan died early Sunday at a hospice in Burbank of bladder cancer, her publicist told The Hollywood Reporter. Brennan also received an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress playing tough captain Doreen Lewis opposite Goldie Hawn in the fish-out-of-water comedy Private Benjamin (1980).

Sad. I actually remember her best from Tales from the Crypt on HBO. I don't remember much about the movie but I remember being creeped out by her on Private Benjamin for some reason. Of course I saw it when I was 11 or 12.

Dang. I just watched Clue. Very cool lady.

Just rewatched The Sting not too long ago, but she was best in PB.

She was great in lots of movies, but I loved her in THE CHEAP DETECTIVE.

She is hilarious in that film. Her uncomfortable dinner monologue is one of the funniest parts!

Always great, even in that awful made-for-TV 80s remake of Babes in Toyland. For me, however, it will always be her turn as Mrs. Peacock in Clue that is the definitive Eileen Brennan performance. She transcends being an actor and just plain inhabits that character. So, so funny.

I always loved her as Tess Skeffington in Murder By Death.

Sadly, I can't think of anything major I've seen her in. Her face seems familiar, though, and I checked IMDB. I hope her family goes to God with their loss, so He can help them find peace.

She was brilliant as Mrs. Peacock. RIP
