I don't like "Predator 2" more than "Predator" (who could), but it brought a lot of interesting ideas to the table.

The ship being here for hundreds of years, the previously mentioned med-kit scene, the different vision modes, showing that Predators will not kill females *at all* (even attacking them).

The biggest thing I took from this movie is that the Predators were of different skill levels. Clearly the one in the original was a far more skilled hunter, as it took Ah-nuld to injure him. The city Predator was taken out by Danny Glover (who was a cop, not a elite military soldier), so his skills were obviously less.

Predator 2 added *something* to the mythos, while it sounds like "Predators" was a modern EFX love letter to the original.

Can you elaborate on that? I always figured that the ship that was there was the first one from the opening credits as it's scanning the city. Basically it drops off the Predator to hunt and then lands somewhere else where it wasn't seen.

I guess I never paid much attention to the intro of the movie.

I had always assumed it had been there for hundreds of years since the Predator gives him a gun from 1715-ish. But they could have got that on a previous visit.

But keeping some single shot gun from the 1700's seems like an odd trophy to keep, I don't see the other ones keeping more modern machine guns as trophies.

i haven't seen predator 2 in a loooooong time, but wasn't it the case that the predator was going to kill the sht out of that one chick but only held back once it found out she was pregnant; not necessarily b/c she was a woman?

Correct. Predator killed old women on the commuter train, because they had guns. Men or women it doesn't matter. If you're armed then you're toast unless you're pregnant. And in case of the little kid (you want some candy) his gun was fake, but almost had his head blown off.

I'm gonna go with Predators. Yes, it had too many homages to the first one, but the setting was interesting, and Adrian Brody made for a good leading man with his screen presence.
Predator 2 has it's moments which are very strong, but it's hard to get past just how woefully out of place he seemed. Honestly I think if the original plan to cast Patrick Swayze hadn't fallen through, Predator 2 would have been a much stronger movie.

Never knew Swayze was up for the lead. I know he was doing Point Break during the same as Predator 2 was being filmed. I think Arnold recommended Danny Glover for the role, though.

But the Predator in the original movie still went after Dutch and his buddies even after they dropped their guns. But they were probably picked for trophies.

I still think there is a "no females" rule, and it probably is ignored if they are being attacked (or are targeted). But a majority of the people getting offed by a Predator were largely male.

Yeah, and then when it was Dutch all alone and unarmed, the Predator also dropped all of his weapons, too.

Predator 2, I actually liked Predators but I thought 2 was better.

That's more of a casting problem than anything. It's a big action movie circa 1990 so it's mostly a male cast. They usually cast one woman to keep it from being a complete sausage fest.
