Re: Angry Birds: The Movie

That trailer is the same length as most trailers, yet it seemed like it would never end.

I could think of worse movies to be dragged to with children.

Re: Angry Birds: The Movie

Seems like they missed their timing window with this. Wasn't Angry Birds a much more popular thing like two years ago?

Re: Angry Birds: The Movie

It got a couple of laughs out of me, but I disliked it on the whole...too loud and obnoxious in every respect, and (perhaps not surprisingly) too many dated cultural references.

My kindergartner, on the other hand, thought it was the greatest thing he'd seen in the theater since the last thing he saw in the theater.

Even granting that the time it takes to put out a feature film takes longer than a phone game, this does seem awfully late to the party.

And I was just checking this to ask "Did anyone actually go to see this?" I'll buy it on 3D Blu-Ray of course

Re: Angry Birds: The Movie

Saw this yesterday. (With my son). I had played the game a little bit a few years ago but I don't really recall much of the storyline and premise (if there was one.) That said, the movie actually does have a plot and conflict.

Movie had some good puns throughout, both foreground and background (though not as many or as good as Zootopia); it was a little predictable, it seemed to spend a lot of screen time on music montage type things (and there were some odd music selections). Definitely some juvenile humor in. The initial set up scene sort of bothered me because
Spoiler:
Red was totally in the wrong
but whatever. I liked Chuck and it's possible I'm reading too much into it but the theme of
Spoiler:
exploration versus exploitation, and of course the pig's motivation
was a little disturbing.

And, of course, it ended with
Spoiler:
a dance scene

Anyway, it felt like a summer kid's flick. Which it was. Not the worst I've ever seen, but definitely not in the top 10.

Re: Angry Birds: The Movie

Movie is aimed for kids and for kids, it will be a hit. As for the adults, well, we just have to weather thru it. lol.

Re: Angry Birds: The Movie

I've got a 5 and 8 year old who both enjoy the game. I don't even think they are aware this came out.

And yes, I'm not afraid to say no to films I don't want to see and don't want to pay big $$$ to see at the theater. I said "no way" to Goosebumps last fall. Fast forward and we all enjoyed watching it on Netflix last Saturday night. Totally warmed over shit by the way. But we had some family fun.

I would think it would be cool to surprise them. But I get it can be pricey to take a family to the movies.

Netflix magically streaming it into their home so they can watch it on the 84" screen and then rewatch it infinity times on the iPad will have to suffice.

The "surprise" trip to the movies is this Wednesday when I'm taking them to the IMAX to see the National Parks film on 15/70mm. The poor miserable fucks. Not sure they'll ever recover from my shitty thoughtless parenting that didn't take them to Angry Birds.
