Taken would be in there too.

Ehhhhhhhhhh. I dunno about that.

Taken is little more than shoot'em up junk food. Neeson is a good actor, but he doesn't get much to do in the film behind scowl and bear people up. He lends perhaps more gravity to the movie than that type of film is normally expected to have, but it's still just a nuts and bolts action flick and little else. There isn't anything wrong with that, I'm just saying that it doesn't give Neeson lots of room to show off his acting.

Actually, she got mostly positive reviews in Avengers and CA. With iron man 2 many thought she was wasted.

Not sure if it is a rule but shooting a gun like that, I'm guessing, would be a bitch for the wrist.

Hold on. Her whole arm is turned. If it was just the wrist, it'd hurt.

Beyond that? Uhhhh... I'd think that the possibility of the casing flying into your mug would be an issue too.

There is a part in Leon where Natalie Portman shoots a .357 Magnum one handed out the window and it has the recoil of a BB gun. Don't look for gun realism in a Luc Besson film.

Ah, but ask yourself, did she fire five shots, or did she fire six?

Ehhhh... Goes a bit too far with its premise but it looks pretty cool. It's Besson directing. I'm going to see it.

International sex symbol does action movie from creator of many sleeper hit trashy shoot'em ups with maximize appeal to teenage boys? Oh, Universal's marketing department must have died and gone to heaven.

Out of curiosity, what is the origin of this "We only use 10% of our brain" stuff? Old pulp SF writing or something?

Did they just do this with Limitless?

Huh. Plot synopsis made it sound like Crank with a female. Instead were basically getting a superhero story. Aw hell I'm in for anything Beeson does.

curious, given how the MPAA has had issues w man on woman violence, even in action movies (Haywire feels like a PG-13 movie), does this get cut to shreds to get a PG-13 & get the biggest possible audience

These days, that's hardly an issue, you just release the unrated Blu-Ray version. Hell, it's already happened with a whole bunch of Besson movies. On that subject, are the French BDs of The Transporter flicks uncut? The US DVDs have unedited fight sequences as deleted scenes.

Re: Lucy (2014, Besson) S: Johansson

Trailer makes it seem like a mix of The Matrix and oh I don't know, Haywire, with bits of The Fifth Element thrown in. (The girl is the key, and she has a multipass, I mean passport.) Might not be a bad thing though. Action scenes look good, and ignoring the usual plot holes, it might be a great ride. So is Morgan Freeman's character going to the big bad? Was it all just a dream? lol

RocShemp 04-04-14 01:41 AM

Re: Lucy (2014, Besson) S: Johansson

I don't think Morgan Freeman is a baddie at all. The trailer makes it seems like he is talking with the lead henchman but it's obvious that two very different scenes were spliced together for the trailer and it's likely that Freeman is speaking to a very different character altogether. Also, in the trailer the lead henchman is shown apparently working with Scarlett Johansson so possibly he doesn't stay a baddie for long either.

Saw this in front of Captain America 2 and it was great! The crowd went nuts and it gave me a hard on. It's Limitless meets the Matrix directed by Luc Besson.

I'm so fucking there!!!!!

Not to mention Old Boy is also in it!

Take my money again!

Re: Lucy (2014, Besson) S: Johansson

Besson showed two full scenes from Lucy. It looks great.

Spoiler:
First. Scarlett chained up. Not much more than actually showing her take out the men sitting at the table, but in the course of that, she actually takes a bullet to the right shoulder. She proceeds to sit at the table, eats a ton of food, and digs the slug out of her shoulder. Packs a bag with the bad guys firearms and takes the taxi to the hospital. Whatever the drugs are, they kick in, and she's able to see and hear people's conversations (think enhanced senses like Daredevil) during the cab ride. At the hospital she can decipher the Chinese signage and heads into that operating room. The surgeon tells her she can't be there as she analyzes the patient's cat scans and x-rays. She turns to the table, kills the patient and shoves the body off the table. Tells the surgeon, he was going to die anyway the tumor in his brains had spread..

Second scene was this crazy car chase thru Paris. Her enhancements allow her to see and read the traffic so she (along with Amr Waked) weave like crazy between moving cars. (Besson said only 30% of it was CGI) Think Premium Rush probability factoring, except every move is the right move and she's driving a car, not a fixed gear bike. She's trying to get to a hospital where Min-sik Choi has taken over a room by force. He is sitting with these mules that are carrying the drugs in their body. They're rudely operating to take his drugs out of them. One guy complains, Min-sik shoots him dead. Another runs and he's chased and shot by Min-sik's thugs. He falls at Scarlett's feet and now it's a standoff. Min-sik scrambles to grab his drugs and get out of there when he exits and he and Scarlett lock eyes.
