Re: Box Office Predictions: Iron Man 3 VS Man Of Steel

I voted for Man of Steel. People want to see something new, and there have been many great superhero movies since the last edition of Superman, so MoS will outgross IM3. IM3 will be more of the same from Marvel, which isn't bad, but not omg we need to see this now kind of film.

In general, people seem to not want new things, which is why we have a million sequels and reboots.

Also, how is yet another origin story of Superman at all anything new?

I know Superman has been called the Man of Steel for decades. However, I wonder if Warner went with that name due to Iron Man's success.

Really? Maybe I'm out of the loop, but I remember hearing that even back during the New Krypton stuff, it still wasn't selling all that well. I guess I'm just behind the times.

I imagine Avengers certainly was, I think Downey will get people into seats anyway combined with brand recognition. I agree the second film was weak, but maybe dumping Favreau will turn out to be helpful, maybe Black will give the franchise some new blood. It'll be interesting to see how he handles such a large-scale project and big budget.

Iron Man 3, which will probably make over $300 million. I don't think Man of Steel will be that far behind though.

I don't think so. I think it is because of the success of the Batman movies titiled using his nickname, so they're following the same formula for Supes.

Man of Steel will win out and may even be number 1 for the summer. Iron Man is getting a tad of rust from over exposure. IM3 will do great (though I got a nagging feeling it won't be a great movie) but I think Supe's going to pull it off.

Voted for Man of Steel.

Iron Man is just a little over exposed right now. This will be the fourth movie with Iron Man in five years. But it's been seven years since we've seen Superman. And despite the recent success of The Avengers, Superman is still the far more recognizable character.

No, they're going for the "appeal to the fans" mode they established by calling Batman "The Dark Knight".

Re: Box Office Predictions: Iron Man 3 VS Man Of Steel

Iron Man 3 will beat Man of Steel easily. I think the "by a $100 million" is totally reasonable. I don't think the public really wanted a new Superman flick.

In that time we've also seen it in Smallville the animated series and I'm sure a few other places.

Re: Box Office Predictions: Iron Man 3 VS Man Of Steel

Not close. IM3 will definitely crush MOS.

As for which film will be better, I've heard some *real* early buzz on IM3 that's sorta meh ("decent but flawed"). FWIW this person didn't like The Avengers much either. I really liked Avengers (although it doesn't quite hold up to multiple viewings) and I'm a Shane Black fan; "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang" is miles ahead of any Zack Snyder movie I've ever seen. But Superman is my favorite superhero, and this movie looks like the type of Supes movie I've wanted to see since...well, since Superman III. So it's anyone's game at this point. I'm exhausted. Who

Which is still a tiny minority of the general moviegoing public. They have to aim for widest audience possible here.

I think Iron Man 3 will make more money. I really don't care either way since I don't own stock in either studio but I do hope that there is at least one joke in MOS about Zod buying his armor from an H R Giger catalogue.

It feels like a lot based on, Smallville, the other Superman films, the animated series, half a dozen versions in the comics, and again. However for most people the animated series and the comics are likely out, the original Superman film was a long time ago and Smallville was even over a decade ago when it started.

I do hope they get to the point quickly enough, they do not need to focus on the origin for half the film yet I understand why they want to do it. They want to establish an origin for this version of Superman.

Not even close. IM3's opening weekend will be close to what MOS does its entire run.

As good as the trailer for MOS is; it is not going to make much more than 200 million if it even reaches that.

I really like the fact that Man of Steel appears to be going for a completely different take on Superman and seems to be refreshing the character.
I started watching SUPERMAN RETURNS for the first time yesterday, but only got about halfway through before giving up in disgust. I was genuinely surprised by how much it references the Reeve Superman films. Which only makes it worse in comparison.

Iron Man 3. I think it looks kind of terrible, but that doesn't matter. It'll do WAY better that Man of Steel, guaranteed. Unfortunately, I think Man of Steel will be a far better film.
