As much as I enjoyed the third installment (it was ridiculous fun), I kinda wish they didn't bring him back and instead going forward we'd have a post-Walker ensemble franchise without a plain old white actor.

If someone could assure me that Jason Statham kicks Vin Diesel's ass in a one-on-one fight in this, I'd be there opening night. But some sixth sense tells me that just ain't gonna happen.

I'm still pissed that Rodriguez beat Carano and that Diesel overpowered the Rock.

If you've ever seen an MMA fight, the Rock getting beat is not out of the realm of possibility. As for Carano, it only bothers you because you know what she is really capable of. Just assume the character is not as formidable as the actor portraying her.

They will probably go the Lethal Weapon IV route, where both Diesel and Rock have to tag team against Statham. #knowhatimean

How many of these are there supposed to be? I am holding off buying any until there is an ultimate set.

I'm holding out on the Middle Earth boxed set. The wait is agonizing!

These are always some of the cheapest BDs out there. No reason to not own and enjoy them now.

It's naive to think physical media will really even be a thing if/when they stop making these movies.

The best you can hope for is something like the Bond 50 set that commemorates a milestone or significant event. Even when SPECTRE comes out Bond 50 is still gonna be a complete collection of the first 50 years of the franchise.

The upcoming 6-film set in tire packaging and a spot for #7 marks the beginning and the end of the Walker era so that might be a good opportunity to dive in, though you could argue it isn't a true Walker collection since he isn't in #3.

In any case, they're cheap and there's no sign of this franchise ending. On the other hand we're only six years away from the 20th anniversary box set that will probably include a further two films. And no stores will carry physical media and the only way to get it will be via Amazon Drone.

Reviews are trickling in from the SXSW screening

some reactions on twitter:

"The car chases in Furious 7 are infinitely better than the one in Saw!"

Variety's Scott Foundas gives it a rave review:
http://variety.com/2015/film/reviews...t-list-wrapper

His plot description gets a little too complicated for me. I don't think these films really need an intricate plot.

Also, he leaves out any mention of Lucas Black, which is the first thing I'd want to know--how big is his part? Is it just a cameo after all?

Well I'm happy to see James Wan may have finally "broken out" of horror movies finally. I guess.

Except he's going right back to them... doing The Conjuring 2.

I didn't think Death Sentence was a "horror" movie. Although I find that scenario terrifying.

It wasn't but it wasn't really a reach either.

Except for the fact that sales are down and retail space is shrinking. It'll limp along for a few years thanks to Amazon and then you'll have something like the vinyl market where certain titles are still released, but I have to be realistic and say that there will be a time when high-profile titles are released digital-only.

Expecting these things to come out on Blu and DVD 20 or 30 years from now is like expecting those 8mm Star Wars highlight reels to still be made for the prequel trilogy and the Disney movies. This franchise will outlive the current formats.

There is no way to replace that revenue and streaming isn't going to pick up that revenue. Not going anywhere; I do love all the doomsayers on it though. DVD sales still out number blu, DVD's were going away as well, so were CD's...

Sales were down big deal. Home sales were down, car sales were down, movie ticket sales were down, TV ratings are down, TV sales are down... yada yada yada basically all sales were down at one point or another for something. They all went away too? Until something can pick up the $100 million or so a month that discs generate they will go nowhere. Streaming will not pick that up.

Wan signed a new development deal with New Line Cinema. I think it was mentioned in this thread. I think he's one and done with this franchise. There was talk that they would shoot 8 and 9 back to back and were thinking about approaching Justin Lin. But, since he signed on for Star Trek, that probably won't happen either. I fully expect a new director for the next film.
