Stand Up Guys is my favorite Christopher Walken film and performance. (other than "More Cowbell")

Ninety minutes is a good length for a movie.

I agree.

I don't mind movies that are under two hours, animated and not rated R.

The Star Wars OT is not that great. I enjoy it as nostalgia because it was an important part of my childhood though.

Re: The Unpopular Movie Opinion Thread, Part III

Tom Cruise is a terrible actor. He's been decent in two movies: Born on the 4th of July and Magnolia, other than that he is dreadful.

Taken is completely ho-hum and Liam Neeson is a pedestrian action star.

The Dark Knight gets worse with each subsequent viewing.

The Hangover is not funny.

Christopher Nolan is the most overrated filmmaker working today.

Tobe Hooper did indeed direct Poltergeist.

Yeah, I quite liked it. I still think their biggest screw-up was the title.

My Blue Heaven is Steve Martin's best movie.

Re: The Unpopular Movie Opinion Thread, Part III

Titanic is an awesome film from beginning to end. Maybe this isn't really unpopular, but the crowd of people that hate it is loud.

Sean Penn in Mystic River
Daniel Day Lewis in There Will be Blood
Al Pacino in Scent of a Women
All Oscar winners, and three of the shittiest, over-the-top, most ridiculous performances I have ever seen.

List of Some Unfunny People
Jon Stewart
Stephen Colbert
Chelsea Handler
David Letterman (now)
Jack Black
Ed Helms
Dave Chappelle
Ricky Gervais

Spinal Tap sucks.

I see nothing special about John C. Reilly.

I don't know why, but I laughed when I read this. Is there some major John C. Reilly fanbase out there?

Sigh, I knew I shouldn't have even clicked on this thread. With all due respect to everyone's opinions, I think it's just gear-grinding. Though if I clicked on the thread expecting anything else, I'm kind of an idiot.

It was unintelligible, and I read the book. I really, really wanted to like it, but I just thought it was a mess.

It's stylishly directed, to be sure (That a director with such a wobbly grasp of the English language unused to working with a second unit can still have such a distinct authorial stamp is fascinating to me though.), with Woo's ultra-stylish cinematography and stunning visuals, but the movie kind of....bored me.

My Blue Heaven is Steve Martin's best movie.
WOW. THAT'S more like it. Some of these picks are leaving me scratching my head, but that might be the first and only time I'll ever read that statement.

Mystic River was one of the worst "great" movies I've ever seen. It's one of the few films that just made me angry at what a cheat the narrative was.

It's also not unpopular to trash incredibly successful films (Titanic, Hangover, Avatar, Shawshank, Gump) because the hype killed them, and a lot of people are sick of them now. At the time, with no word-of-mouth or expectations, The Hangover on opening weekend was one of the best comedy movie experiences I ever had. I had to see it twice to hear all the jokes because the audience was laughing so hard. But I can't watch it now. It's time has passed.

Now if someone were to say The Hangover Part II was better than the original, THAT would be unpopular. Because that was the laziest big budget movie I've ever seen.

I agree with this. People seem to shit all over the dialogue yet suck T2's dick and lap up the fact that Arnie walks out to Bad to the Bone.

I also agree with the dude who liked John Carter. It wasn't a bad movie.

Additional "unpopular opinion": Tron and Tron Legacy were boring as shit.

Also I'll delve into Television for a bit:

Cry me a fucking river about Arrested Development not getting beyond a third season a few years ago, and then about it not getting more than one season or a movie now. It's getting a fourth season, and people are STILL bitching about how that fourth season is a one off. Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared never got beyond even one season. All three are great shows, but who really gives that much of a shit about AD.

I like Kubrick movies for the most part, but Eyes Wide Shut is not good. Try to rationalize as much as you want, say that repeated viewings are necessary, say that there are deep meanings... Nope, it's just not good.

Yeah, but T2 was just a summer popcorn movie. Titanic was aiming higher (that said, I like it). It also won some major Oscars, and films that beat out "better" films for awards tend to have more vocal critics. Crash, Forrest Gump, and Shakespeare in Love are probably more disliked than they have a right to be because according to many, they won Best Picture over superior competition.

As for Arrested Development, all I really was hoping for was a movie, and if successful, maybe we'd get another. That we're getting "episodes" at all is a bonus, and I'd never expect the show to come back full-time. That's much more feasible with animation, since the cast doesn't have to be together.

The Return of the King is practically unwatchable for long stretches in the extended cut.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is better than most of the movies that Marvel has put out since Iron Man, excluding Avengers.

Clint Eastwood is a note actor and a one note director.

Argo was wildly overrated and Ben Affleck is merely an adequate filmmaker.

Slumdog Millionaire was actually a very good film and deserved all the acclaim it received.

Oliver Stone's JFK is historically accurate.

That's what I meant. Not just him but a few other recent directors their "legendary" status is largely internet fanboy propaganda.

I'm still iffy on it. I just don't get it. The point of the film. I feel like whatever that point was it's made at the end, somewhat, but to get there made no sense. I do love the last line though.

You tell that to all the cast and crew who believe the opposite. Great Spielberg film.

Re: The Unpopular Movie Opinion Thread, Part III

Some more things I believe that are usually unpopular

- The Two Towers was better than Return of The King
- Zoolander gets funnier with multiple viewings. It's one of the funniest things Stiller has ever done.
- I love the Nolan Batman Trilogy but the plot holes in all 3 movies get bigger and bigger the more you watch them
- Temple of Doom is better than The Last Crusade
- The Matrix sequels are not as bad as everyone believes them to be. They are just not as surprisingly good as The Matrix
-Punisher War Zone is great fun
-and Terrence Malick still sucks

Tideland in one of Terry Gilliam's best films.
