Re: The Unpopular Movie Opinion Thread, Part III

I saw The Master recently and didn't think it was good at all, save for the great acting. I was disappointed because I've loved every one of PTA's other films.

Tree of Life was hands down the most boring movie I've ever seen.

Re: The Unpopular Movie Opinion Thread, Part III

Star Trek: The Motion Picture was one of the franchise's only, true attempts at science fiction (and not just drama/action/comedy set in space). And a sidebar opinion: the SLV is the best version of the film because the theatrical and DE cut way too many character moments that actually give the film some heart.

But you're unpopular. Haven't you noticed why no one wants to sit next to you at lunch?

Casino, while containing many flashes of brilliance, really isn't that great of a film overall.

Re: The Unpopular Movie Opinion Thread, Part III

The original "Dawn of the dead" is overrated, and is usually liked due to people having nostalgia. And I am a zombie movie fan.

"Skyfall" was boring, and the illogical aspects of it took me out of the movie. And I am a Craig/bond fan

"Django Unchained" was unenjoyable, overrated.....and too long. And I am a QT fan.

Spielberg is an excellent action director, but a shit director of drama (Catch Me If You Can being the exception).

Ang Lee is a shit director, period.

Somewhere in Time is the most underrated movie of the past 50 years (it's in my top 5 all-time).

Return of the King is the most overrated (it wouldn't make my top 100 all-time).

The Star Trek trilogy (II, III, & IV) is vastly superior to the Star Wars trilogy (IV, V, & VI).

Re: The Unpopular Movie Opinion Thread, Part III

Thanks for this thread.

- Daniel Craig is the WORST. BOND. EVER.
- Paul Thomas Anderson's films are mind-numbingly boring.
- We Anderson's films are basically all the same, quirky-for-the-sake-of-quirk movies
- No Country For Old Men is the worst Oscar winner in recent years

Somewhere in Time holds the distinction of being the one romance movie that most guys dig. It is very underrated and holds up amazingly well IMO.

I actually agree on Star Trek versus Star Wars

I'm a fan of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Roger Moore is my preferred James Bond.

Ghostbusters 2 is better than Ghostbusters. It's funnier and has a scarier villain.

Re: The Unpopular Movie Opinion Thread, Part III

The Punisher with Ian Jane is one of the best movies about a Marvel comic book character.

Moonraker has one of the best opening sequences of any James Bond movie which elevates the movie into the top ten of all James Bond films.

John Woo's Broken Arrow is a fantastic action flick.

The Clash of the Titans 2010 is a wonderful film about Greek mythology and all the actors give top-notch performances. (The original Clash of the Titans stinks.)

Casino is one of Scorsese's best pictures.

Does anyone actually think this? TV shows maybe, but beyond Serenity and Forgetting Sarah Marshall I can't think of a single movie either was in that gets much love.

As for me:

The first Pirates of the Caribbean movie (the only one I saw) sucks.

Re: The Unpopular Movie Opinion Thread, Part III

I think Jackie Brown was a better movie than Pulp Fiction.

The King of Comedy is an absolute masterpiece and one of the two or three best things Scorsese ever did.

Albert Brooks' Modern Romance is one of the most accurate and greatest "romantic comedies" ever made.

Re: The Unpopular Movie Opinion Thread, Part III

The Phantom Menace is the most fun of the prequels, and the closest in tone to the OT. It has plenty of flaws, but then AOTC and ROTS went in the wrong direction trying to recover from the butthurt fanboys.

Re: The Unpopular Movie Opinion Thread, Part III

Gonna get killed for this:

Alien is boring.

Others:
Pitch Black is one of the best sci fi movies in the last 20 years.
Going back to a thread I just recently made: both Matrix sequels are entertaining and enjoyable.
Prometheus, while flawed, DIDN'T suck.
Katherine Bigelow is highly overrated.

Who's Ian Jane? Thomas Jane's brother?

Empire Strikes Back is not the best Star Wars movie.
Little Mermaid is the best contemporary Disney animated movie.
Forest Gump doesn't deserve all the hate it gets.
The Terminal isn't Spielberg's worst film (There are several worse)

This is only unpopular probably because not enough people have seen it. Definitely a great movie about "love".
