Payne's films often have the capacity to make me feel very uncomfortable. I had a difficult time finishing About Schmidt, for example, because I watched on DVD and was able to keep pausing it. I have a feeling that this will be another one so I had better go see it in the theater so I cannot pause it.

I've only seen Happiness and recall thinking it was good and not something I had much trouble finishing.

Perhaps the apparent glibness of Dern's character will make this easier to watch. Who knows? I certainly had no trouble with Sideways and it is one of my favorite films.

oh sorry - I loved it, it was a great mixture of drama and a lot of humor - the acting was cross the border excellent. Bruce Dern while quite spry in reality really brought out a nuanced performance. Forte also surprised me - for a dramatic role (for an actor that is most usually associated with comedy) he nailed it. June Squibb performance as the mother was stunning and the scene in the cemetary (which in fact was the first scene that was shot) is one of the best scenes of the year 'in cinema'

highly recommended.

Good to hear. I planned on seeing the movie this Friday, but something came up. I hope it gets a halfway decent release, but i kind of doubt it.
