Just so I'm sure, you're saying you didn't like ZD30?

Re: The 85th Annual Academy Awards (2013 Discussion)

I thought Seth McFarlane did a decent job; he had some good jokes in there.

"We Saw Your Boobs" was the best original musical number in the history of awards shows.

The Rudd/McCarthy thing was painful.

Jennifer Lawrence falls cute.

All of the Chicago glad-handing was lame. Most of the musical numbers eat shit, but, goddamn, Chicago is ten years old.

Why do these things always run over by a half an hour? Why not just schedule them longer?

The Bond thing did, indeed, blow. Looked like something some high school kid would post on Youtube. Not surprised if Connery was one of the hold-outs; he seems like he's kind of an asshole. And Brosnan should consider himself lucky he even got to play Bond; he's like the epitome of a TV actor.

Loved Hugh Jackman going up to Jlaw for the assist. Always knew he was a spot on guy.

A friend of mine who worked on the production said the clip was originally 8-minutes long, but the Oscar producers called at the last minute with a request to cut it to two.

Sounds like once the producers caught wind of the Bond no-shows, they said "fuck it".

And devoted more time to celebrating a 10-year old musical. Stupid.

Re: The 85th Annual Academy Awards (2013 Discussion)

Is there a link where I can see some of the acceptance speeches? I would like to see QT, Lawrence, and DDL specifically, hear they were class acts. I DVR'd the end but looks like it cut off, and I scheduled it to go 15 minutes over, didn't know they would beat that estimate, but they did.

The producers of last night's Oscars were also producers of Chicago, I guess they figured they'd trot that out in a cynical effort sell a few DVDs.

The producers of this year's show produced the movie Chicago and the TV Show Smash and just happen to decide to include pointless musical numbers from the movie Chicago and by Jennifer Hudson, star of the TV show Smash. Coincidence?

You tube has the majority of Oscar acceptance speeches, uploaded by the Oscar account.

Wow Christoph Waltz should just continue taking roles in Tarantino movies; every time he does he gets a (well deserved) Oscar. I'm very pleased Tarantino won Best Original Screenplay too.
I wonder if poor Jennifer Lawrence's fall is going to be talked about/laughed at for years? I can see them doing a parody of The Fall for next years Oscars in any event.
I am soooo glad Beasts of the Southern Wild got zero awards. I hated that film and that annoying little brat. Daniel Day Lewis is indeed a pretty special actor.
Nice that Ang Lee won too.

I like Michelle Obama, but we don't know need politicans or spouses of politicans mixed in with entertainment like that. Whether it was Michelle, Laura Bush, Hillary or Nancy Reagan, I would have been just as annoyed.

Everything in society is so polarized these days because of the partisan hacks who rule the TV, its nice to watch something and I don't have to see a politicans face.

.
I think cause she handled with a sense of humor in her speech, I think many of the comedians will lay off her. She pretty much admitted she embarrased herself in front of millions of people and I think it would be piling on if they kept making fun of her.

Definitely. While I thought DDL was the most eloquent and funny speech of the night, the honesty/heart felt rambling that Affleck threw out there was great. I love seeing real emotion.

I noticed that one of the people Affleck thanked was Martin "Gigli" Brest. Anybody know the story here?

Totally agree on that sentiment.

I can watch Wreck-It Ralph any day of the week now, as it's one of my favorite movies of all time. Wreck-It Ralph deserved it, period.

Yeah, Brave's win was an unpleasant surprise. I fully expected Wreck-It Ralph to win, which I would have been fine with (though I was personally rooting for ParaNorman, my favorite American animated film in a long time.)
