In-house screener.

Spoiler:
For those who have seen it, what do you think the dialog was with the Yakuza at the end? Before he says, "I'm done"? Were they offering him position in their camp?

Most certainly.

Hammer girl, could've had a spinoff, I wanted to know more about her.
Movie was punishing.

Re: The Raid 2: Berandal (2014, Evans)

A friend told me that they think a part 3 got green lit.
Spoiler:
Not sure how they would tackle it since only one gang is left standing and Reza is dead. Tho I feel that the special unit Rama was forced to help has their own dirty little agenda which might be a focus.

There could be something interesting with back story about the relationship between Hammer Girl and Bat Boy.

That's what I like about the flick -it's Infernal Affairs (trilogy) on acid.

Re: The Raid 2: Berandal (2014, Evans)

Saw this today with some close friends. We loved it. Definitely the definition of a 'bigger & badder' sequel. I kept myself mostly in the dark about this film, but nothing prepared me for how far Evans goes with the sequel. Such an exciting film!

Also, maybe it was just me, but I found the story a bit to hard to follow early on. I wouldn't go as far as call it convoluted as a lot of reviews I'm seeing now do.

I'm looking forward to this, but the 2 1/2 hour runtime has me worried. Alot of fat they could have trimmed (I think).

Wow. That was nuts. Totally different from the first movie, yet expands on what made it fun.

Re: The Raid 2: Berandal (2014, Evans)

I went and saw the film for a second time this afternoon. 'Early Bird' tickets ($7) coupled with the fact that the theater is less than 10 minutes away? Dangerous stuff!

Loved it even more the second time around. Didn't feel like 2.5 hours long.

I was still confused about a couple things. To anyone else who has seen it, hopefully you can help clear these things up for me.

Spoiler:
What was the significance of Bejo having the same tattoo as one of Goto's foot soldiers? Was Bejo working with Goto? Playing all sides (Reza, Goto and Bangun?)

Also who was the man who sat down with Rama in the visitation room at the prison? I understand his purpose, but I didn't recognize him even on the second viewing.

Spoiler:
I took it as Bejo playing the long game, he sent his men in to protect (and later ultimately to kill) Uco. Bejo sacraficed his own men to gain Uco's trust.

No clue about the second one though.

Spoiler:
I don't think that guy is one of Goto's men. Why would Goto sent his men to kill Uco anyway? He didn't have any motivation to do so at that time. It shows that the guy was actually Bejo's men all along. Bejo sent him to the prison with the purpose to kill Uco. That's why Uco killed Bejo when he realized about it.

This film casts quite a lot of prominent Indonesian actors, which I reckon each of them holds sort of keys to the story, regardless of their roles in the film. I read somewhere that Evans had planned the film as a trilogy since the first one. I reckon that the story's a bit too complex because he's trying to put the backgrounds in place, as a preparation for the next part.

Remember when suddenly the name "Reza" appeared in the first film? This "Reza" was only mentioned by Tama at the end of the first film, without any actual role. We only know that this "Reza" is one of Tama's connection inside the police, and we get to see him in the second film. Similar to this scene, I think Evans is trying to leave some backgrounds for the next film, only at a bigger scale. Hence we felt like it has got too many characters to know.

Spoiler:
This includes the guy with the same tattoo as Bejo, the guy who visited Rama inside the prison, and the guy whom Reza was speaking to inside the police headquarters. I think this guy will be one of the key characters for the next part. Well, probably.

Thank you! One of my best friends explained it the same way to me recently. Not sure why I didn't pick up on it.

Thinking about seeing this for a third time this week before it's wide release on the 11th.

Re: The Raid 2: Berandal (2014, Evans)

I'm not going to call this the best action movie ever made, but it sure was fucking awesome. And brutal. And a little silly at times. But that car chase... And the last two major fights. Holy shit, were they perfect.

Re: The Raid 2: Berandal (2014, Evans)

It certainly didn't feel like it was that long, and in fact, some things could have been fleshed out (which was touched upon in this thread). I'll have to check out the deleted scene.

Re: The Raid 2: Berandal (2014, Evans)

I did notice that one of the scenes that was not in the finished film but was in the trailer is the one where the dude shoots another dude in the head as he's riding the escalator. I haven't seen the deleted scenes yet.

Also I love the fact that this is nothing like the first movie. A typical sequel would have tried to place the guy in a building and do it all over again. This movie moves forward.

Minor note but 'Berendal' was never shown on the title during the movie itself, so I guess they removed that for the U.S. release.

AHA! This IS hitting my local AMC! My IMDB app was all confused about it. Hopefully it'll stay long enough for me to see it. As regards a dub, the DVD and Blu-Ray did have have one for the first film. I'm kind of surprised it was exhibited theatrically that way to be honest, it was fairly gutsy of Sony to send it out subtitled. So does this one have multiple scores as well, or is there just the one this time!
