My top 3:

1. Crime
2. Noir

(Or I could say Drama, which covers those three and most others in the poll)

Re: Your favorite film genre?

I hope I'm not the only one who votes "western" (so far I am).

I can watch a western any time of the day, any week, any year and be satisfied, whether it's a classic like THE SEARCHERS, an epic like ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST, a Roy Rogers B-western, or an old TV episode of "The Lone Ranger." I've seen hundreds and I hope to see hundreds more before I die.

I don't have that type of patience for Westerns, in terms of being satisified with much lesser B-westerns. But, I know the feeling b/c that is how I feel about crime films and noirs (many of which were intended to be B-pictures anyway).

This is very true. The main reason I picked drama is because it is the closest to real life.

I don't know if I'd call it my least favorite but considering what a funny guy I try to be in real life and how much I like to laugh it's odd how little I actually enjoy most comedies. I know they're subjective but I guess they're so subjective it's hard for me to find one worthy of enjoying.

I think out of all the genres listed I crave Action movies on a regular basis. Something about being able to lose myself in mindless violence that I enjoy. I have an easier time putting myself in that fantasy than in any other genre.

Same for me. Comedy and action are distant runner-ups.

Re: Your favorite film genre?

I chose other because Sci-Fi and Fantasy can overlap, and both are at the top of my favorites list. There is no way I could choose between them.

Top five:

1) Sci-Fi/Fantasy
2) Action/Adventure
3) Horror (supernatural horror, not most slasher types or "torture" flicks)
4) Comedy (but definitely not low-brow potty humor)
5) Thriller

Re: Your favorite film genre?

I would initally have said sci fi but looking at my collection I have far more dramas than any other category. So that's my pick.

Re: Your favorite film genre?

I went with Westerns, but I could have almost as easily picked any one of these genres...

Action
Thriller
War
Sci-Fi
Martial Arts (If you're counting Samurai movies)
Noir
Adventure
Crime
Mystery

But I voted for Westerns as there is just something about movies set in that era that I find both compelling and entertaining. And fun.

Re: Your favorite film genre?

I have to say horror. It's one of the most primal. I've been fascinated(and scared) of horror movies ever since I was a little boy. I would be scared out of my wits just looking through the horror section of my local video store but at the same time, I couldn't help but take a peek at all the gruesome covers. A good horror movie, to me, is the most satisfying. Whether it's feeling pity for Frankenstein's monster or cheering Jason on as he kills stupid teenagers, horror has the ability to evoke so many emotions. Plus I love me some fucking gore.

In that order

Other genres depend on the story, stars, writer/director
