Fuqua almost always plays it straight, which is why his movies are ridiculous as hell but always kind of fun.

This looks like a Presidential Under Siege 2 but not on a train.

Looks like Die Hard 3 meets Air Force 1, except in the white house and not a plane.

Looks like Schindler's List meets Annie Hall, except less Nazis and Jews.

It's Sudden Death without Van Damme jump kicking a Penguin mascot in the head!

I really want to see this. I'm sure it will get terrible reviews and get shit on by the Merchant and Ivory film snobs here, but it looks badass to me. I'd like to see Gerard Butler have a hit film for a change as an action star instead of those cheeseball romantic comedies he's mostly been in.

Sorry, but this is going to get shit on even by fans of mindless popcorn flicks. This has the stench of crap all over it.

Anyone think it's weird that this is opening a week before G.I. Joe 2, which seems to have a similar premise?

But offset by more song and dance routines.

Re: Olympus Has Fallen - Full Trailer

Just got back from an advanced screening of this. A few quick impressions without giving away spoilers. But I'll put it in spoiler tags anyway just to be safe.

I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Spoiler:
It's basically Die Hard in the White House. This is everything A Good Day to Die Hard should have been. Gerard Butler is doing what he does best: kicking ass and taking names. He's in the John McClane role essentially a one man army taking out terrorists one by one with a few decent one-liners here and there.

The filmmakers pulled no punches with the 'R' rating. This is one of the most violent action flicks that I've seen in a while. Lots of people dying, close-up bullet to the head executions, stabbings, etc. I loved it! Not quite Django: Unchained or Rambo over the top but still awfully bloody.

There were a few silly plot points, action movie cliches, and characters doing stupid things but for the most part, everything stayed pretty realistic (as far as a "terrorists seizing the White House" movie can be anyway). There was one plot point near the end which came out of nowhere and I rolled my eyes at but it was minor enough to ignore it.

This movie isn't going to set the world on fire but it was pretty decent for what it was.
My expectations were met and I had fun.

As we were leaving the theater I did hear a few other audience members talking about it hitting a little too close to home after 9/11. I didn't have any problems with it but some people might have a hard time with it. I'm also guessing it will receive some less than favorable reviews because of that.

Shaky cam or quick edits during fight/action scenes?

Unfortunately I got to the theater late so I had to sit in one of the front rows which made the fight scenes a little hard to make out but from what I could tell the fights scenes were more quick edits rather than shaky cam. Sometimes bit too quick making it hard to follow. Not sure how much was the way it was filmed and how much it was my crummy seat.
