Well, Christopher Walken is probably my favorite of those I would consider character actors. I believe Giamatti, Hoffman, Shannon, and maybe a couple of others have transitioned to lead actors now. For a write-in candidate, I really like Philip Baker Hall.

Almost impossible to choose, I'll go with David Strathairn. I'd love to see him work with John Sayles again.
