I never actually saw the original, but
Spoiler:
yes, there is a trombone kill.

Saw this tonight. I liked it more than I was expecting to. Lots of familiar faces in the cast that I wasn't really expecting.

Does the killer use that ridiculous digitally-altered voice from the trailer in the actual movie? I think I would find that too distracting.

Looking forward to watching this over the weekend. I'm a fan of the original and the cast they were able to put together for this seems pretty talented.

This is only $9.99 on vudu right now. I'm gonna have to pick it up. Also the original is on Netflix right now.

The original was very hard to find for a long time.

The original is a hodgepodge of oddly paced low budget but legitimately creepy scenes (the trombone scene...) and out of place, unfunny slapstick humor. It's worth seeing, and holds up alright, but at the same time it's really poorly made and acted. The remake is pretty good if a little unsatisfying when all is said and done. I had somewhat low expectations for it, which it exceeded. A couple good jump scares but lacks an overall sense of dread.

The original has a really nice sense of atmosphere and some beautiful ambiance, but it's basically just a glorified episode of Unsolved Mysteries.

I pulled a double feature of the og and the "remake". Giant props to the creators of the remake. They could have done a cheap carbon copy remake but really went above and beyond with a very clever "meta" take on this property.

The remake fully acknowledges the fact that the original movie exists and goes so far as having the characters investigate the making of the first movie to help discover the killer.

This made a very fun double feature and I recommend watching that way for the greatest enjoyment. Wtf trombone. Haha.

It will be, I'm sure.

You know, this wasn't half bad. It seemed to lose focus at times, or rather, it kept shifting focus to a lot of awkward sex scenes. But I loved how insanely meta is was, and the killer had some inventive, nasty ways to make kids go pop. It wasn't great by any means, though neither is the original. I think this was an admirable remake/sequel/whatever-it-was.

There was an interview with Murphy and the director about how they had the freedom to try what they wanted because the budget was so low on this. I wish more movies had that mentality, not necessarily "do anything!" but definitely try things out. My guess is the cost was around the price of 1 episode of American Horror Story.

Totally agree. A worthy effort deserving of some praise. Definitely had some creativity which was a pleasant surprise.

That's where I saw it. Was totally surprised by the fact that it wasn't actually a remake.

I think we tried to watch this on Netflix over the weekend. My Wife fell asleep and I turned it off.

I didn't think it was horrible. I liked the way they used the first movie.
