Re: Sergio Leone vs Stanley Kubrick

Stanley Kubrick is my top favorite director and Sergio Leone is not my favorite but I like his work in with Clint Eastwood in western movie (The Man with No Name trilogy) and Once Upon a Time in America. My favorite Kubrick's film: The Shining

I would as well, but it would be a personal, subjective choice. Objectively, if one can measure such things that way, I'd say Kubrick and/or Kurosawa are the more accomplished directors who pushed the medium further.

I agree

Some other competitors who I would consider equal or better (IMO of course)

Tarkovsky
Bergman
Dreyer
Bresson
Ozu
Antonioni
Godard
Mizoguchi
Chaplin
Hitchcock
Welles

I can get on board with Tarkovsky, Bergman, and Godard. Don't think I'd agree with the others.

Stanley Kubrick may be the greatest filmmaker of all time, but David O Russell is king shit of fuck mountain. Just ask Lily Tomlin. or David O Russell himself.

I guess if I had to, I would bone Leone. I would prefer not to bone either though since they're both dead.

Blasphemy! Actually, I agree with a lot of them but Bunuel isn't one of the masters like Bergman, Dreyer or Tarkovsky.

Bunuel never pushed the technical limits of cinema the way some of the others did, but his surrealism is responsible for some of the best and thought-provoking content ever put on the screen.

Without Bunuel we would not have the twisted imaginations of Alejandro Jodorowsky or David Lynch

You're forgetting Christopher Nolan.

I like Nolan but he's nowhere near the caliber of Chaplin and many others in that list. He's getting there but he's nowhere near Chaplin. Chaplin for example knew SOOOOO fucking much. The man was a genius in his effects shots for that era. Some shots I didn't even know where effects shots. He knew the realm he could play in for sure.

I think GreenVulture was being facetious about Nolan.

Yes--Guillermo Del Toro. A true fan of cinema wouldn't have to be reminded.

It's a joke, Snake.

Kubrick by a long shot. The Shining, 2001, A Clockwork Orange, Spartacus, Paths of Glory, Full Metal Jacket, Dr Strangelove...no contest.
