I agree with that assessment.

QT needs to grow as a filmmaker/writer - he just continues to do revenge films that just homage B-movies. Live action revenge cartoons is definitely a good description of what he's been doing.

I'd like to see him to a serious film.

I like all of QT's movies, but do think he has finally done homages to each of the major film genres he's a huge fan of at this point. Crime / Heist movies (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown), Kung Fu / Martial Arts movies (Kill Bill), '70s Car Chase Movies (Death Proof), WWII Action-Adventure Movies (Inglourious Basterds), and Spaghetti Westerns (Django Unchained).

What he does next will be interesting because he is now forced to branch out beyond these favored genres if he doesn't want to repeat himself.

So what is next for him? Sci-Fi? Horror? A Spy Film?

I'm not sure if he's capable to do the type of serious film you're talking about. And if he tried, it may be the downfall of his career. So far he has stuck to what he's good at.

He'll wind up becoming the next Tim Burton. Lather, rinse, repeat.

So I guess it shouldn't be too hard to predict what he'll do next. He hasn't done Horror/Slasher yet - and there's plenty of b-movie references for that. I'm sure he's pissed that "I Spit on Your Grave" was remade already - because that seems right up his alley. Same with Straw Dogs (not that it's a horror/slasher - but it's violent).

Maybe he'll do a prison movie based in the 70's where an inmate gets revenge.

A nod to Dolemite maybe? A fly black pimp getting revenge on the guys who killed his bitches?

I'm yawning just thinking about the possibilities.

Well he called Death Proof his "slasher" film, but with a car instead of a knife. He still still needs to do a ghost story, it maybe an espionage flick.

I can't imagine him doing science fiction. But at the same time I'd almost want to see one from him just to see what practical elements he'd use to get it done.

Yeah, he has a point there. Stuntman Mike was essentially a serial killer.

I remember a long time ago, well before Casino Royale was made in 2006, QT had said that he would like to adapt Ian Fleming's CR novel into a serious movie but set it back in the early '50s when the novel was originally written. Although he'll never get the rights to any James Bond novel, maybe he could write an original spy movie screenplay set in the early '50s with the type of espionage of those times.

Can't believe I'm one of two who voted Django. People are afraid to call a classic before proper time has passed
