QT was talking on Charlie Rose how everyone in America was probably pissed at the end of Roots when Chicken George didn't whip the guy, so he was saying that in this, you get all of that.

I don't believe for 1 second that Spike Lee did not see this film. He is too much in awe and envy of Tarantino as a film maker to not see it.

The Knicks haven't played many games the past couple of weeks so I'm sure he has had the chance to see it.

I'm sure he's seen it. Unfortunately for him, Tarantino has grown in popularity since the early 90s, Lee went the other way.

Will Smith would have made this movie hammy piece of shit. I'm glad he made the right decision and stayed away from it.

How about that thing on the train tracks that bounced and was like a dick?

Re: Django Unchained (Tarantino, 2012) — The Reviews Thread
Will Smith could have done it well (and so could Idris Elba for that matter). And he has gone on record saying it's one of the best scripts he's read. So it's not like The Matrix where he rejected it due to not seeing the potential of the material.
I mean QT cast fucking John Travolta in 1994, David Carradine in 2003, and we're saying that he couldn't have done something worthwhile with Will Smith? People would be saying that same negative shit about Jaime Foxx if he weren't cast, with his cockiness after Ray, and being in crap movies for the last 3 or 4 years. Foxx was at the right place at the right time, with the right direction. He's not the only guy that could have played the part, but yes, he was great. |

I think I heard that the horse he has in there is literally his horse in real life. So that's cool.
Man, I miss that little bit about naming the horse in the script. Doesn't add anything really but it was funny. |
Re: Django Unchained (Tarantino, 2012) — The Reviews Thread
Yeah, I re-read that part recently and it was a nice little touch.

I believe Foxx rode his own horse in "Django". http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/...rse-is-his-own |

I chalk it up to QT's ability to write empathetic characters, and having basic knowledge of the atrocities both groups had suffered. Knowing how bad Blacks had it back then, how could anyone (racists aside) not share in that elation when the "bad guys" get their comeuppance?
Anyway, that woman's comment and the debate that came after shows me how fucked up some Blacks are in that there are those who would actually ask us to feel sorry for the deaths of our White Oppressors. We are NOT all "STEPHENS". Would anyone ask a Jewish person to feel sorry for seeing the death of a Nazi? FUCK NO. |
Re: Django Unchained (Tarantino, 2012) — The Reviews Thread
One of the many things brought up about "Django" in the Panel was the fact the this was a Strong Black lead Character who risked EVERYTHING to save his WIFE. Not his "Baby Mama" not his "booty call"(Pun intended since Foxx was in Booty Call).
The Black women in the room LOOOOOOOVED this aspect of the film and it seems this is one of the many reasons it's doing well. |

I haven't seen the movie but there was a nice interview with Tarantino on NPR's Fresh Air:
http://www.npr.org/programs/fresh-air/ It is on the main page now, otherwise look for the January 5, 2012 episode. Fresh Air Weekend: Tarantino, Waltz, 'Downton' With his latest film, director Quentin Tarantino was inspired by spaghetti Westerns and the Civil War. Christoph Waltz, who won an Oscar for his role in Inglourious Basterds, teams up with Tarantino again in 'Django.' On Sunday, the third season of 'Downton Abbey,' takes America by storm. |
