Both are guilty pleasures. Armageddon FTW.

With Armageddon they use that piece of crap a couple times in the movie so there's no avoiding it. Plus I hate Liv Tyler so that makes it worse. |

Pretty much. At least you don't have to sit through Dion's vocals during the movie in Titanic - pretty sure the song is played over the credits, although the theme is used in the movie.

Re: Armageddon or Deep Impact?
They both sucked. You need to add that choice to the poll. My jaw dropped the longer Armageddon went on.

Haha, I like both "My Heart Will Go On" and "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing". Maybe it's a 90's kid thing...

Deep Impact is better only because it is less insulting. |

Released the same year and miles better: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg I vote Deep Impact even though I haven't seen it. It can't be worse than Armaggedon. Hell, being tortured by The Spanish Inquisition couldn't be worse than Armageddon. |

Re: Armageddon or Deep Impact?
Deep Impact is pretty solid scientifically, and it has a better script and is better directed.
Armageddon is junk - it's the Volcano of asteroid/meteor/comet impact disaster movies. (Both Volcano and Armageddon are halfway entertaining, but they're still junk in a lot of ways.) Just like Dante's Peak was much better than Volcano (and it was much more accurate scientifically) Deep Impact is much better than Armageddon (and is more accurate scientifically). |

That would be a solid argument if 50% of the Bad Boys flicks weren't dog shit either. Bad Boys II is far more idiotic than Armageddon. I hate Transformers with a passion and I'd say those are masterworks compared to BBII. That's why Bad Boys 2 wins hands down. Martin Lawrence and Will Smith any day of the century over that fuckwad The Beef. It's funny all the mentions of "My Heart Will Go On", since (and I can't stand Celine Dion) that song has nothing to do with either film (yes it did play only over the end credits of Titanic, not in the film itself, and the theme in the film never had anything to do with Dion at all) because that song like its score was by James Horner, who followed up Titanic with the score for two movies, the first of which was Deep Impact. :) |
Re: Armageddon or Deep Impact?
Deep Impact by far. It's tone is more appropriate, giant waves freak me out and it's not Michael Bay.
A relatively unknown asteroid film I'd highly recommend is Before the Fall (2008). |
Re: Armageddon or Deep Impact?
Both are hard to watch these days, but I'd have to vote for Armageddon by default, simply because I have nothing but loathing for Deep Impact... manipulative chick flick tearjerker nonsense disguised in disaster movie clothing. Armageddon is at least honest in its own stupidity.

I watched part of it on the dish about 5 years ago and realized it was actually terrible. There was an over-abundance of crap TV shows and movies in the late 70's that a 10 year had pretty low standards. The movie certainly had a stacked cast. |
Re: Armageddon or Deep Impact?
Armageddon is just about everything wrong with modern Hollywood filmmaking. It's big, loud, dumb, manipulative, has a crappy Aerosmith song headlining it, and it's directed by Michael Bay. But for some reason the end product is freaking awesome and has me glued to the screen.
Deep Impact feels like a made for TV movie. In all fairness though I haven't seen either since the VHS days. |
