The Master (2012)
Very atypical character study anchored by fantastic performances from Joaquin Phoenix & Philip Seymour Hoffman and dazzling cinematography. Definitely isn't for everyone but I enjoyed it! |

Last Night in Soho Universal BD Anya Taylor-Joy, Thomasin McKenzie.. Directed by Edgar Wright. 2021 A young girl, passionate in fashion design, is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s where she encounters her idol, a dazzling wannabe singer. But 1960s London is not what it seems, and time seems to fall apart with shady consequences. Edgar Wright's Horror film got mixed reviews but I like Wright's films in general and I enjoyed this one for the most part. Lots of terrific visual flourishes. The story treads water a bit in the middle; you have a lead character who sees visions and appears crazy to everyone around her and that angle is over-done. Lots of bonus features. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...ight_shift.jpg Night Shift Starz Henry Winkler, Michael Keaton. Directed by Ron Howard. 1982 Early Ron Howard comedy with well-meaning city morgue attendants running a call girl ring out of "the office". This was a last-minute choice to close out the night and it really hit the spot. Henry Winkler's last Theatrical lead and his only real hit in that regard. It's hard to believe there was a time when Michael Keaton was considered strictly a Comic actor. Shelley Long is adorable as a clean-cut hooker: "Cheers" came along later and I really began to see Long as "Diane Chambers" and it made her less charismatic to me. Lots of familiar faces from that time, including a non-speaking Kevin Costner in one scene. |

Superhost (2021) — Okay horror-thriller that's predictable in the ending (typical of all modern horror to be fair) but performances were alright and at only 80-minutes, doesn't overstay its welcome. Nothing groundbreaking or terribly memorable yet entertaining and funny for anyone who regularly watches YouTube vloggers and is worth a one-off viewing. **¾/***** (C+)

Marksman (2021) - Simply put, Liam Neeson cashes a paycheck. Run of the mill, direct-to-video fare of a former Vietnam vet turned Arizona border rancher who is hard on his luck after losing his wife, who discover a mother and son crossing the border being chased by the cartel. Cookie cutter, but still enjoyable. 2 stars out of 5. Paramount+

Fight Club. I showed it to a friend who hadn't seen it before. She liked it. I think it has aged well.

Champagne and Bullets (1993)
Quite honestly, I'm still not sure what film I just watched. It's hysterical and extremely awkward in all of the worst ways. In the end it's the kind of film that you stick with to see what other random shit may (or may not) happen during its run-time. |

Amazon Prime A mediocre thriller but Kingsley and Stanley Tucci were in this? A cash grab probably for them. |

L.A. Wars (1994)
Fun straight-to-video Action film starring (real-life) Kickboxing Champion Vince Murdocco, who seems to be having a lot of fun here. Laughed a bit too hard at one of the excessive kills near the end of the film  |

Fuse Tiya Sircar and Hannah Simone from some sitcoms you might have watched in the past. It has some funny moments and maybe you will get some of the inside jokes on Indian culture |
Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread
Fortress (2021) — I'm now convinced this Bruce Willis is an anamatronic android and the real one is living the good life on some island in the Pacific.
Just another forgettably bad direct-to-video thriller "starring" Bruce Willis. The fight scenes are almost incomprehensible and the acting rather poor or, in the case of Willis, bland, clearly his scenes were often shot separately from others. At the very least Chad Michael Murray seemed to be having a good time. If only Willis would adapt to playing insane like Nicolas Cage has in his DTV train-wrecks. I thought there was a kernel of a good idea... until I remembered this sort of thing was done with the 2010 graphic novel adaptation of RED... starring Bruce Willis in a time he still gave a damn. *¼/***** |
Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread
Zone 414 (Netflix) - sci-fi thriller starring Guy Pearce as a PI hired to find a billionaire's daughter who has gone missing in an area where human-looking androids make up most of the population. This is a stinker. The premise makes you think of Escape from New York, but it's really nothing like that. And Pearce already made an Escape from New York knockoff movie several years ago called Lockout. This movie has a kind of retrofuture look to it, like how 80s movies depicted the future. It is trying really hard to be Blade Runner, and failing badly. It's just kind of boring.

Hulu Maybe it was a step up for Stephen Dorff and not some shitty B action movie and it was shot in Ireland but still not a great movie. It was not great but liked some parts of it or looking at Melissa George taking a shower unless that was a double. |
