The Night of the Following Day (1969) — Slow burn of a crime-thriller has a solid performance from Marlon Brando, though, as usual for him, was extremely difficult to work with, butting heads with the director and even showed up on location for a scene drunk. Anyway, the final 15-minutes were well done but it does take a bit of patience to get through the middle section. ***/*****

A mistake I bought this on Blu-ray and maybe for the artwork. Maybe I kind of liked it in 2003 but I was bored to tears and it is 2 hrs and 13 minutes and really long and seemed like it would never end. |

I thought this was going to be really good or great but it was ok. Maybe people that served in the Navy will love it since they had all the navy terminology but being flooded with nautical commands in every scene makes for a boring movie. It is beautiful to look at in 4K HDR. Elizabeth Shue is 57 and still looks too young for Hanks character. |

It was better than what I expected though like some people maybe the ending was kind of weak. |

Cool as Ice (1991) — Outrageously cheesy and the epitome of a vanity project (seeing Vanilla Ice kicking ass is the highlight) but admitteldly there is some charm here and there, plus can't say I never was entertained if only taking me back to those days with the music and clothes (not to mention the direction from David Kellogg who, according to IMDb, mostly done commercials outside of 1999's Inspector Gadget). **½/*****

Apple + Exclusive This was pretty good and the actress who played the mom was outstanding |

Mortal Kombat (2021) — Fluff entertainment at its most bland. The fighting is pretty forgettable but at least they utilized the R rating for some decent gore that honors the game at least. Acting is at best so-so while the dialogue was pretty bad and it probably 10-15 minutes too long. Can't say I'll remember this but for what it is, it's fine as a time-waster. **¾/*****

Starz Berry and Craig were barely in it until the end. The kids were annoying as hell. |

PG: Psycho Goreman Hoopla (streaming) Nita-Josee Hanna. Directed by Steven Kostanski. 2020 An adolescent brother and sister unleash a brutal warlord from another dimension, but the sister is able to control him with a glowing gem. Odd, odd film. A comic pastiche of a lot of movies that lined the video rental shelves in the '80s and '90s, many of which were mocked on MST3K. It's extremely gory and most of the characters come off as off-putting to say the least, and some are downright repellant. I hate to say it, but the lead actress is flat-out terrible (though perhaps the director is to blame), but her brother in the film does a decent job and is perhaps the most sympathetic character. At a certain point, -maybe at the ten-minute mark, -I was just curious to see how it all played out. |

They Won't Believe Me (1947) — Decent, if not also a bit slow, film noir crime-drama, features some fine performances by Robert Young and Susan Hayward. Had fun with the numerous amounts of irony including ending. ***½/*****
Anyone know where I can find what they took out this 95-minute cut? |

Apple + This was pretty good and a story most people should get to know with and nice to see Samuel Jackson play this type of role and Mackie and Holt were great as well. |

I forgot how funny this was. It has been awhile since I saw this and Hollywood does not make a lot of movies like this anymore. James Franco is is in this too if you look carefully and Octavia Spencer in one scene who knew. Jessica Alba probably in one of her first big or noticeable roles |

The Grifters 101 Films (This UK disc is listed as Region B, but both the film and the 70-minute bonus documentary played just fine on my Region A player). Anjelica Huston, John Cusack, Annette Bening. Directed by Stephen Frears. 1990 A small-time conman has torn loyalties between his estranged mother and new girlfriend, both of whom are high-stakes grifters with their own angles to play. Absolutely terrific film, great cast. Annette Bening was never this good again. This is the film where I learned why you should be afraid of a pillowcase filled with oranges. |

The Dustwalker (2019) ---- eh! Kinda of an annoying movie about alien infestation. The characters lack of urgency or awareness was really frustrating.
