Scooby-Doo & Batman: The Brave and the Bold (2018) — As a Batman fan, fun to see a lot of the quirky side characters (favorite was Detective Chimp) and just having this Batman back. Of course, it was forced bringing in the Scooby world with Batman but still entertaining enough. 3.0/5

Ferdinand (2017) theatrically with my wife and kid. Thoroughly forgettable. I will say that John Cena and Peyton Manning were surprisingly competent voice actors, while Kate McKinnon was unsurprisingly not.

Battle of the Sexes (2017) – Okay sports drama/comedy with two good performances but rather mundane and forgettable. 3.25/5

Blade Runner 2049 (2017) — Visually masterpiece with a story that wasn't as arresting or haunting as the first movie and it could've been trimmed by 15-20 minutes. Still, enjoyable and I'll probably check it out perhaps with a back to back viewing of the two films. 3.75/5

I watched Breathe this morning. I really enjoyed it too. Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy are fantastic in this. I hadn't seen Foy in anything before and I now know that the hype about her is justified. 4/5

That was a great movie. Rebel in the Rye is good too if you are in the mood for biopics.

A generic thriller but I like this below if it is real or maybe it is Kidman's body double?

Wall Street...still as great and as iconic as ever. Tense throughout. Great movie and Oscar winning performance by MD.

Not sure how I first heard of this movie but I rented this and was pleased. An old fashioned thriller with a touch of Bourne but with no unbelievable stunts. A CIA agent is double crossed at an interrogation and spends the next 100 minutes trying to find out who did it, who is for and who is against, and try to stay alive. Naomi Rapace plays a believable action hero.

That good? The reviews panned this pretty much...

No Solicitors (2015) — Probably filmed around 2014/2015 but got released to DVD in 2018, god was an awful pitch-dark comedy with torture porn and all around amateurish filmmaking. 0.5/5

Mirage, 1965 w/Gregory Peck

Many scenes filmed on location in NYC, pretty cool, holds up well and some good performances, including some good stuff from Walter Matthau

3.5/5

Watch Billy Bathgate, or google the Kidman pics. No body double there.

Oldboy.

Decent. Nothing new, nothing explosive, just an old fashioned double cross spy thriller. Plenty enjoyable for a rental. Probably would not revisit or own but at 100 minutes long was well worth the time. Had some elements of Bourne in it, but without the superhero stunts. No driving a car off the top of the Empire State bldg to get out and beat up a bad guy. A lot of the 3 days of the condor vibe. Double crossed, not sure who to trust. This one? Nope. That one? Nope. With the modern day addition of the impending terrorist attack.

a 6.5 - 7 out of 10

Trishna - 1.5/5

Michael Winterbottom’s adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the d’Ubervilles transported to modern day India. An interesting concept that is let down by mediocre writing and acting.

The Commuter (2018)

The absolute definition of by the numbers, predictable and mediocre.

If you're a huge Neeson fan and really want to see this, hold off for a cheap matinee or better yet wait until it hits cable. Forget buying this unless you want more junk on your shelf.

Saw this in the theater and enjoyed it. Didn't remember the Columbia scenes as being so saturated with color. Thought there was a problem with the disc but the BR was the same thing. Always enjoy any documentaries about the real people or events for a movie like this. Other than Cruise being thin and fit and the real Barry was an extra large dude, they seemed to capture his persona.

My wife gave it 45 minutes. I gave it an hour and then gave up. A dramedy that wasn't very funny even though it had Ben Stiller and Jenna Fischer. Basically a monologue about a mid life crisis. All my friends are rich and famous and I'm a poor schlub. Cry me a river. 1/5
