Billy Lynne's Long Halftime Walk...didn't hate it, but could have been done better. PTSD is more than that and Lee made it too stylized. Alwyn was good as Billy. Even Stewart didn't bother me. Hedlund didn't impress me and found him too stiff. That Leigh chick, the cheerleader is so cute.
This should have been more emotional. The only emotional moment was Billy and sister's hug at end. Dialogue seemed stilted as well. Didn't feel like an Ang Lee movie. And don't know what the hoopla over video is, unless you can't see it on regular bluray. Either way, just look ok and filmic. Wanted to have a better time with this movie, but not sorry I saw it. |

I'll Follow You Down - time travel movie, starring Haley Joel Osment.
Kinda dull. Some interesting ethical questions are raised, but not very well explored. Osment's final scene should have felt more shocking, but I was too bored by that point to care. |

I watched Desierto (2016) tonight on XBox video. Thought it was a pretty good low budget Indie thriller. Jeffrey Dean Morgan was great as this crazed hunter stalking and killing illegal immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexican border. Most of the movie is in Spanish with subtitles. It was directed by Jonas Curaron, Alfonso's brother. Alfonso also produced the movie. |

A Wolf at the Door - 4/5
After the disappearance of a child, the parents and the father's mistress are interrogated by the police. Using flashback we gradually find out who the culprit is, but the real twist is why did they do it? A well made tense drama/thriller from Brazil that keeps you guessing up to the end. |

The Monster...this was a pretty good little creature feature. Very different role for Kazan and I could have done with a little less exposition, but overall well done and the creature was pretty unique and fierce. Satisfying ending.

Jaws - 4.5/5
A classic adventure/thriller that would forever change the way Hollywood made films. |

Ghostbusters (2016) - First time seeing this, and at such a remove from the uproar, I feel I was able to watch it impartially, with no expectations.
Aside from being overlong like every tentpole movie is, I thought it was pretty legit. Those who haven't seen the original could like it, as well as folks who had. Pretty funny, nice updates, and lest I escape without being sexist, that Kate McKinnon, man. Wow! B- |

Animal House - 4/5
Comedy classic about the exploits of the wildest fraternity on campus and the Dean who will do anything to have them expelled. |
Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread
I watched John Wick: Chapter 2 this afternoon. Overall, I liked it, but I don't think it was as good as the first movie. His motivation to get back in action was much better in the first movie than the second. I also have a few gripes with what John did at the end of the movie and how the movie ended, but I won't spoil things for anyone in this thread. I gave the first John Wick a 3.5/5. I'm going to give John Wick: Chapter 2 a 3.25/5

Not too good really. Christoph Waltz is always a good villain and he gets his "comeuppance" in the end. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon...._AC_US160_.jpg Preachy at times and made Saving Private Ryan look like a G rated movie. Still can't take away the fact it was a truly inspiring story about a war hero who refused to pick up a weapon. |

Compelling story of a literate slave in 1831 who staged a rebellion against slavery. A compelling story, but as a movie it didn't hold a candle to similar fare like 12 Years A Slave. Was actually pretty dull for most of the 2 hour runtime. |
