Clerks III (2022, D: Kevin Smith)

Clerks III will be his final film

I guess Clerks 3 is official now, even though everybody saw it coming.

It won't be his last movie.

Hockey movie is now going to be a mini series.

Honestly, I'd rather see him doing more films like Red State and less films like Clerks III, but, hey, whatever. The film world will move on quickly.

And please, for the love of all that is holy (and the sake of my eyes), don't cast your goddamn wife. You might think she's hot, the world begs to differ.

from the article...

But with recent news that Hit Somebody will be made as a miniseries for television instead, Smith can still make another feature film without going back on his word…
Hopefully he doesn't try to do too much with it and he sends Randall and Dante back to the Quik-Stop where it all started.

Re: Clerks III (Smith, Sometime this Decade)

I was disappointed in Clerks 2, but still get a lot of entertainment value out of Dante and Randall. I've given up on Smith ever making another film with the same tone as Chasing Amy, but I'll be very interested in seeing another movie about the clerks. Shame Jay and Silent Bob will have to be in it as well.

Clerks 2 is up there with Mallrats as one of my favorite Kevin Smith films.

Kevin Smith will never again reach the peak that was Chasing Amy.

I rather enjoyed Clerks II, so I'll naturally be looking forward to III.

I have mixed feelings on Smith as a director but I enjoyed both Clerks movies so far. The first one is better but I didn't mind the second one. That being said I'll probably see a third if it happens.

Not sure if it's a peak or a mole hill, but I agree with this. ;) Chasing Amy is my favorite movie of his.

Re: Clerks III (Smith, Sometime this Decade)

I wish Smith would have done more movies like Chasing Amy as well, although I guess he tried the more personal drama thing later with Jersey Girl and failed pretty poorly. Although the Ben and Jennifer Lopez thing might have had a worse effect on that movie.

I don't mind seeing a Clerks 3 though, I still like Smith's humor enough to get enjoyment out of his comedy. Even if I thought Clerks 2 was a bit of a let down too.

I loved both Clerks movies. I hope this is just on par with those.

Yeah. Despite the great Darth Vader rant, Chasing Amy was pretty boring.

Personally I think the story of Chasing Amy is good but the movie itself has aged horribly.

Re: Clerks III (Smith, Sometime this Decade)

HIT SOMEBODY is going to go to TV because no studio wanted to back a movie about hockey, believe it or not. Smith did a speaking event a few weeks ago that I attended and he said he talked to Jerry Bruckheimer at Disney - not asking him to back the project, but knowing that he was a big hockey fan and looking for some guidance. Bruckheimer told Smith that he (Bruckheimer) had been trying to get his own hockey idea greenlit at Disney or elsewhere for about a decade now, and no one was biting.

If Kevin was sticking around as a director, I'd have no issues with CLERKS III. But as his final film? It's a horrible idea. It's like saying "Well, I'm out of ideas...but here's one last money grab before I go."

After budget and advertising Clerks 2 barely turned a profit. I don't know how much of a cash grab another Clerks film could possibly be.

If he had known about this at the Carnegie Music Hall show, which I also went to, and announced a possible 3rd Clerks movie I might of shrieked like a little girl and fainted. I'm not a hockey fan but I would of certainly gone to see his final film on the big screen and that is saying something since his last film was the only thing he's ever done that I haven't enjoyed/bought. If it was his dream project I'm certainly glad he got to do it but it wasn't something I enjoyed at all.

I'm very concerned that Jeff Anderson won't sign on since he was reluctant to do the second film and his other film with Smith, Z&M Make A Porno, was such a bomb at the box office. If the 3rd film doesn't happen I'll be pretty bummed but I'll simply watch the last scene in Clerks II and I will be reminded about how just seeing those characters a second time was a thrill.

I thought Clerks II was a pretty good movie. It's much tougher to create a funny sequel to a comedy classic than say an action franchise.

Period piece. ;) (if the mid 90's actually qualifies as such). Set it some time between the events of "Clerks" and "Chasing Amy" and have it animated "Clerks: Animated Series" style.

They made figures of characters from all the movies in that style, surely they have the artwork stashed someplace.

I like Kevin Smith. True, he's not David Fincher when it comes to technical prowess, but he has a unique and distinct voice then the general morass of comedies who are written and directed by "?".

I don't get this. nobody was willing to Back Red State either, that's why he went entirely off the studio system to do it. Is he now saying that he has so little confidence in Hit Somebody that he's not even willing to let SModco take a gamble on it?

Nobody was willing to back Red State because it's an awful movie with little redeeming value or entertainment. Smith's worst movie by a wide margin.

This will be Kevin Smith's last movie until he realizes no one is talking about him, or cares about him, or thinking about him and he'll come back with more self-important trash that is just plain awful.

I always take it with a grain of salt when people say they're going to retire- look at Steven Soderbergh, Kiss, John Farnham in Australia.
