Re: Vampires or Zombies - Which Do You Prefer?
Like everyone else here I'm very much against the latest trend of the pussification of Vampires but I much prefer the old guard of vampires than zombies. There is a certain attraction to what they are capable of compared to mindless zombies. Vampires have depth, a humanity to them. Interview with the Vampire is an all time favorite of mine.
Another thing is that in order for a zombie apocolypse to be successful you need to be over run with zombies. A single vampire can kill for generations without being noticed. That's more frightening to me.
The best part of zombie movies, IMO, are the humans and how their survival instincts kick in during it. In vampire movies, it's the vampires that are most interesting.

there's only so much character you can put into zombies...the film is then made or broken by the human characters.
I enjoy Vampire more, because you can just do more with them

Zombies. Remember in the 90's when we craved zombie movies? Now, the market is flooded with every zombie scenario you can think of.

Both have some big PR problems lately. Zombies are being overrun as the zombies are to do themselves. Vampires are being teenified and losing their original menace.
Both work well in the hands of the right filmmaker.

If this were the 70's, zombies. But every single angle has been covered for zombies. Total overkill (pun intended). It's easier to make vampires distinct. I don't think of Edward Cullen when I think of Gary Oldman's take on Dracula. I do tend to lump zombies together as an indistinct group.

I liked vampires when they were bad guys, like Christopher Lee as Dracula. Their sole aim in life (in death?) was to bite people on the neck and drip blood when they did it. And the good guy was the one who put a stake through their hearts. Vampire as heartthrob? Forget it.

One of my favorite movies has zombies so I'll go with that. Both can be stupid or great, depends on the movie.

Zombies are pretty boring, I like certain versions of vampires as they can be interesting but mostly sick of them as well. The main issue is Vampires tend to be characters, Zombies are usually just brain dead infectious monsters - they get that moment of shock when somebody turns into one, but otherwise it's all a bit weak.
So vampires win. Even if only slightly.

I read something once that zombies tend to be more popular when Republicans are in power and vampires when Democrats are. I'll see if I can find it.
EDIT: Yep, here it is.
To answer, it depends. Bad-ass vampires are great. Emo Twilight dipshits are not. Rage-zombies are great. The super slow and shuffling are less great.
Overall, I prefer a cool vampire, followed by zombies.

I've never been even remotely scared by a vampire movie. But Night of the Living Dead, both Dawn of the Deads, and 28 Days Later all gave me the creeps. So I vote zombies.

Vampires, I feel like they would have won in a walk before the crappiness of Twilight and greatness of Walking Dead

Totally disagree. The only time I've liked rage zombies was in 28 Days Later, because it was the first time I remember anyone doing it, and Danny Boyle is a better filmmaker than most people making zombie movies these days. Otherwise, give me the slow, shambling zombies thanks.

Re: Vampires or Zombies - Which Do You Prefer?
Why do people refer to the plague victims in 28 DAYS LATER as zombies? They're not zombies, they're people infected with a virus that makes them violent. Who started this notion that they're zombies?

Re: Vampires or Zombies - Which Do You Prefer?
Name some good vampire movies that have been made in the last 20 years. Its a very short list.
They're both overexposed but Zombies (at least recently) have a higher batting average of producing an entertaining product.

That's because they've made more zombie movies recently.
Not a movie, but Spike and Angel alone are better characters than anything in a zombie film.

I think The Vampire Diaries TV show does a much better job with the "tween" vampire stuff. At the end of the day, they can be absolutely brutal.
