Actors who've rarely appeared in bad films.

There's probably a very short list of actors where most of their films are great. Robert de Niro and Al Pacino both had fantastic starts in the early
1970s with films like the Godfather 1 and 2, Taxi Driver, Dog Day Afternoon etc. But these days de Niro has had a few duds like Rocky and Bullwinkle and the Little Fockers while Al Pacino recently appeared in an Adam Sandler movie.

The only two actors I can think of offhand are Meryl Streep and Daniel Day Lewis. Actually I don't think Lewis has ever been in a bad film. Your thoughts?

Jessica Chastain so far. Though she did do a voice in Madagascar 3, don't know if it was bad though and if that counts. But live action wise...she's done wonders. I actually really hope Zero Dark Thirty is damn good cuz if Chastain is in it...means it's good. Now that I'm looking at her filmography..sounds like Texas Killing Fields wasn't all that hot..but it also seems like she wasn't bad in it either. Hrmmm.

John Cazale didn't appear in a bad film either but he died quite young. Look at those films he did though- the two Godfathers, The Conversation, Deer Hunter and Dog Day Afternoon. Incredible.

I thought Madagascar 3 was pretty good, better than the first two IMO.

Has Russell Crowe been in a stinker yet?

Tom Cruise rarely picks bad ones, too.

Russell Crowe appeared in A Good Year in 2006 which got bad reviews. But most of his film have been quite good. I'm trying to think of terrible Tom Cruise films. Actually Vanilla Sky got slammed by the critics and I think Cocktail did too.

Daniel Day Lewis was in Nine, which was pretty bad. He's been in some others that aren't great, but that's probably the worst one.

Meryl was in 'Death Becomes Her.' But she's pretty consistent.

Re: Actors who've rarely appeared in bad films.

I thought of Bruce Lee but I think it has more to do with his presence in the movies he has made while he was still alive. Game of Death was, of course, done posthumously.

But, techincally, a lot of people still forget (Or don't even know) that Bruce had appeared in many movies as a youngster before moving to America and re-inventing himself as a martial artist.

Not sure if any of those movies have even appeared on DVD. Maybe MrHan knows?

There are others but these are off the top of my head.
American Gangster & Vertuosity are nothing to write home about either & they were both in it.

Ebert has said that John Cusack is one such individual. I haven't seen enough by him myself but I'll throw that one out there.

I wanna say Tom Hanks. Ladykillers is the only negative mark coming to mind. I haven't seen Larry Crowne though. That was a theatrical dud.
