Good God there's been a lot of horrible TV shows over the years...and this is just a small sampling of shit spewed out by the networks!

Wiki List of television programs based on films
The earliest one on that list is the 1955 series based on CASABLANCA. It starred tough guy actor Charles McGraw as Rick. David Soul's version came 28 years later.
However, there were earlier TV series based on movies that are not on that list, including the sitcom "Topper" (1953-55), based on the 1937 movie.
The earliest cartoon series based on a movie is probably "King Kong" (1966).
Here's what IMDB says:
That's pretty wild: a Japanese live-action monster film spun off from an American cartoon (that was produced in Japan), spun off from an American monster film that was 33 years old at the time.

Star Wars also had Droids & Ewoks back in the 80's.
War of the Worlds was from the 60's movie.
Battlestar Galactica was released as a movie before the series.
Turner & Hooch
Always though of Parker Lewis Can't Lose as an attempt to cash in on Ferris Bueler's success.

Re: Movies that spawned TV shows?
I'm a huge fan of the Fast Times TV series, I think it was kind of better than the movie. I re-watch it frequently.
Does John Hughes hold the record for the most TV shows based on his movies?
There were also (fairly awful) pilots for Adventures in Babysitting and Revenge of the Nerds series.

Back to the Future: The Animated Series. Surprised it hasn't been released on DVD yet.
