Danial Craig shows his emotions.
Now that means these 2 actors are better than Connery or it wasn't in the script for Bond to go after Blofeld for killing his wife.

So wait.... i regards to the ending...
Anyway, I saw this at a 1215a showing that started 15 to 20 minutes late so I was a bit annoyed and that may have screwed with my feelings towards Skyfall. I may have to see it again under better conditions. Anyway, so far...I think I liked it, but it didn't blow me away. Craig is pretty much my favorite Bond so I'm forgiving.

Connery shows emotions. Go rewatch that opening scene. He's fucking brutal.

It's been a while since I've seen that one, is there a reason that "Blofeld" doesn't look anything like the classic Blofeld?

I'm guessing the actor didn't want to shave his head or wear a bald cap. They might have mentioned something about reconstructive surgery as well, can't remember.

I read somewhere that the producers felt that Blofeld was an ephemeral character, never looking the same twice (i.e. played by different actors in each movie). Hence, all the plastic surgery and doubles in Diamonds are Forever.

Blofeld is pretty damn inconsistent in the Bond universe.
Sometimes he's got hair, sometime's he's got a scar.
Sometimes he has an accent and promises delicatessens in stainless steel.

Yeah, but you could always tell who the character was supposed to be just by looking at him. With this guy you'd have no idea until somebody actually called him Blofeld.

If I recall, Bloefeld's description doesn't even stay consistent in the original novels. I don't remember is there's a specific reason for the change though.
Regarding Diamonds Are Forever, the worst part about the recasting is that they used Charles Gray who played a completely different character in You Only Live Twice only 4 years earlier. I know Eon did that frequently over the course of the series, but this is the most distracting instance.

I think that's what bothered me most about it. I recognized him as a villain from a previous movie, I thought it might have been Thunderball, but it's been so long since I've seen the Connery films. Does anybody know if the quality on the Bond blurays is good? I really need to catch up with them.

Yeah, that's why I need to revisit the Connery Bond films. FRWL and Goldfinger are the only two I've seen more than once or twice. It's annoying though because Bond has always had a bad habit of going in and out of print on DVD and BluRay.

Re: Skyfall (Mendes, 2012) The Double-O Reviews Thread
I saw this a couple of nights ago and while I liked it, the movie has several glaring issues thought brought it down to earth from the lofty reviews I have read here and elsewhere for me.
The good: Finally some action sequences and fight scenes we can watch that last over a second before it cuts away to another barrage of one second cuts. The action scenes were very well done in my opinion (but that could be because they were so terribly awful in Quantum).
M dies, thank goodness! I have always hated Judy Dench in the role and finally we are rid of her. Yes!
Aston Martin. Nice touch.
The villain. Over the top, yes, but most all JB villains are over the top. I actually liked the flamboyancy of the character to be honest. It was at least a little different.
The cinematography. Excellent.
Albert Finney. Loved it when he showed up. I had no idea he was even in this movie.
The Score. More enjoyable than a lot of Arnold's stuff though only a few tracks really stood out during the film...but at least it was improved. Does anyone make music like John Barry anymore anyway?
The title sequence was fantastic and the theme song was great.
The bad: Wasn't really happy with some of the storylines. I was surprised to see Bond get shot in the beginning but was it ever explained why he didn't have a cannon hole in him after Moneypenny shot him? And he just disappears and winds up in a bed with a smoking hot chick living on the coast? No money, significantly wounded, almost drowned and we get nothing in-between? I can accept it but I just didn't like it.
The pace - slows down significantly in the middle.
The CG komodo dragon. Is there a new rule in movies where we can't film real life animals anymore? A stuffed puppet would have looked more realistic.
The second Bond girl. Hardly used and very forgettable. I guess Moneypenny was more significant but I still would have liked something a little more with the second girl.
Home Alone for adults. Granted, I loved Finney showing up but did anyone really think this plan through? You are going to protect M by taking her to a deserted mansion in the middle of nowhere, leaving the maniac following you clues of where you are going, let him bring a helicopter and small army and you are by yourself with an old man with no back-up to help you. Brilliant plan! In my opinion they should have killed M in the courtroom and it would have been a more meaningful and weighty death. Yeah, it would have become another JB revenge film but I still think it would have held more substance.
Cut all this nonsense with JB's childhood and parentage. I don't want to know it. Leave it a mystery.
There were some other minor plot irritations for me but nothing I can't overlook since it is a James bond film.
Daniel Craig. I know people seem to think he is the JB godsend around these parts (and to be honest, basically every critic in most countries it seems), but I just don't like him as JB. I know I am in the minority on this one. It's just that he has no suave or sophistication about him. He certainly isn't that attractive with his massive ears, skinflint haircut and dopey looking face. Yeah, the man can kick some ass, but he just isn't James Bond to me. I'll live with him and I do feel he does a decent job, he just certainly isn't my favorite and honestly ranks only above Lazenby for me.
All in all, a good flick but it still lacks the fun of most of the earlier movies. It is slowly getting there (I loved the "radio" bit) but I need a little more fun, sophistication and lady-killerism(?) in my James Bond. I still look forward to adding this to my JB collection despite my criticism. I even enjoyed Quantum a lot more after watching it at home recently back to back with Casino Royale.
Oh yeah...and bring back John Cleese as Q please.

In my opinion there really wasn't a "Bond Girl" in this film. There was a "Cumdumpster" who led him to the bad guy...I guess that kinda counts...and a fellow agent who he was "cool" with. Did they "hit it" in Shanghai? I'm not sure...I'll assume they did I guess.

Yeah. There wasn't a real Bond girl...and there's nothing wrong w/ that. The whole Bond girl thing is overrated anyway.

There was a Bond girl, maybe less conventional but I would argue that
Fit the role.

He's right since she is central to the story.

She's just not the standard Bond girl. Which is what a Bond girl is.
Again..this may be very blasphemous but I really like this being the most grounded of them all. Bond is a lot more than all his toys and stunts. Goddamn it do I love that this Bond is pretty close to the book Bond.
