There's more to cinematography than post-production color grading.
I get the complaint people make against T&O, but as long as it still looks good I'm not going to care.

And? Those buildings look nothing alike. The building with the teal windows is taking up a much larger portion of the frame, so there's significantly less color contrast in the shot overall.
There is very little contrast in the Skyfall shot because it's focused on that building so tightly, that building which is nearly 50% teal. In the Brosnan shot you have whites, blacks, blues, reds, plenty of skin tones from all of the faces. There is a ton of variety that just isn't there in the Skyfall shot, which is more of a composition issue than digital grading. The characters are framing the shot so you don't have a lot of skin tone. The blacks in the officers jacket look solid to me, they don't look overly blue and neither does the grey in Dench's hair. It's like you're pissed off that the Skyfall shot isn't forcing a rainbow spectrum of colors into the shot that shouldn't exist there naturally.
Even if that shot looks more dreary than the Brosnan shot, and I agree that it does, it makes sense contextually. It's actually an important plot point following a grim series of events that end in tragedy. The Brosnan shot is simply an establishing/transition shot.

As for context, yeah everything is context and there are no rules about how something "should" look because this is art. But when the majority of films made in the last ten years jump onto this monotonous color grading fad then I'd call it shitty art.

Strevlac is literally the only person I've seen complain about the cinematography. Almost all of the reviews I've read have pointed out how great it is.
Of course that means all of them are wrong. We're lucky to have someone with the best eye in the business.

Don't forget that Deakins himself is wrong too.

I agree that it's a very annoying trend, I just don't think that Skyfall falls into that category, and you are trying to force it in there. Yeah, some of the shots may look more blue than others, but tonally, it has every reason to. This is the grimmest Bond movie ever made, and from what I remember, most of the shots featured a healthy palette of colors. The single-shot silhouette fight scene was one of the coolest shots I've seen in a movie all year.

So Deakins can frame an impressive shot of the Scottish countryside. Big deal. I am talking about the use of color. Please tell me how Deakins use of color is more masterful than say, Deja Vu.

Please stop with all this fucking mock outrage over shit that nobody ever notices ever unless you're going out of your way to actually find it. Jesus fucking Christ.

Pretty meh movie. I look forward to the post-Craig Bond movies that hopefully aren't mediocre copycats of the Bourne movies.

You may have a valid point about the teal and orange debate in general but the more you try to discredit Skyfall the worse you make yourself look. Skyfall is the most beautifully shot film I've seen in quite some time. It's no where near a worst offender in the T&O trend of films.

Dude, as far as very recent beautifully shot films you could have gone for something like Malick's THE TREE OF LIFE.
Dark Shadows?? Jesus fuck..

Amazing how, despite all the insane shit wm has said over the years, he gets the biggest outcry by declaring the cinematography of Dark Shadows to be beautiful. What does that say about all of us?

It's a mark of quality AND value when the newest 007 film is not only a successful Bond film, but also a more satisfactory conclusion to the Batman and Home Alone series than the ones we got.
