I thought Popeye Doyle was a pilot for a French Connection tv series.

Sonny Grosso was the guy Roy Scheider's FC character was based on and he provided the story material to SEVEN UPS and Scheider's character was again based on Grosso's experiences, but more loosely than FC. But it was never meant to be a sequel to FC. Completely different police unit, completely different case.

A lot of these "sequels" are. However, they were presented overseas and on home video as movies.

If we're talking "unofficial" sequels there's always War Inc (unofficial sequel to Grosse Pointe Blank).

What these all have in common are sad attempts to cash in on a popular (supposedly) movie or to try to force a franchise.

And yeah you do find a lot of these on Netflix. I once tried to see if The Karate Kid was streaming...the result I got was a cartoon series I never knew existed.

Yes, and better than all of the movies combined.

51 now. You want to feel really old? Next year, Macchio will be the same age Pat Morita was when The Karate Kid was released.

I saw the chick who played his girlfriend in the first movie in some random horror flick about killer fish.

Not to digress but there was also a Robocop cartoon in the 90s which I liked although my parents would never let me see the Robocop movies due to the violence.

Re: Movie sequels you didn't know existed

The Karate Kid intro looks pretty good, like early Real Ghostbusters quality animation. I saw an episode though and it wasn't very good at all.

It's weird that they were making kids cartoon shows based on extremely violent R-rated films.

And let's not forget this Chuck Norris animated show:

Re: Movie sequels you didn't know existed

The 80s were awesome but having a kids cartoon show based around the First Blood series sounds a little irresponsible in hindsight.

That is the 80s cartoon into. This is the 90s version, which sucked.

Yeah. I look at Karate Kid as one of her better early roles. A real talent - and beautiful as well. She flew under the radar for a while, but I believe she ended up doing at least a couple more films before moving on to tv.
