This is getting great reviews, but I still can't help but think this will tank at the box office...the trailers and promos haven't been appealing at all.

Given the mixed bag of Doug Liman, I am shocked this has a 95% RT rating with 22 reviews in. I'm sure it'll drop some, but this looks to be one of the best reviewed blockbusters this year. I have movie cash so I'll check it out, but it definitely helps to see some very positive reviews. The avg score is 8.1/10.
I think this will open relatively low for a big budget film, something like $35-$40 mil. But if word of mouth matches the current reviews, this could be a movie that has actual legs and manages to stick around a few weeks and can maybe reach $150 mil or more.
Oblivion opened to $37 mil last year and this looks much better than that. Cruise still has plenty of star power, especially overseas, so this might do well worldwide. The production budget looks to be $178 mil, so this probably does need a big foreign boost.

I think this looks better than Oblivion, which always looked static and boring to me (I haven't seen it yet).
I think Liman is a pretty solid director, but Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Jumper both had massive script issues (Jumper had other issues as well).
Go, Swingers, and The Bourne Identity (not the popular opinion, but it's my favorite in that franchise) were very well done.

I like TBI a good chunk be for some reason that looks more aged than the two after it for me.

To get back on track, I think EOT is going to actually turn out to be a really fun sci-fi film that I will see with my dad in a couple of weeks.

Snake, unfortunately, I would still not recommend it even if you happen to be flipping channels and noticed it playing on cable, it is a sluggish film that wastes a couple of hours of your day that could be spent doing stuff you actually enjoy (heck, your time would be better served if you used the 2 hours to catch up on your chores).
I thought the cast was great, but geez...as the saying goes, I would have enjoyed it if it was half way as good as the trailer, but nope...it is a shockingly bland film.
At first, I was not that interested in seeing Edge Of Tomorrow in theaters, but I have read enough positive comments on-line (here and elsewhere) that it is now on my list of summer films to see on opening weekend (I have a tendency to see films on opening weekend, otherwise I usually end up waiting to catch the film on blu/cable).

Just watched a screening of this movie.
I didn't know anything about this film going into it other than Tom Cruise was in it. I was pleasantly surprised as how entertained I was throughout the flick.

This seems to be Tom Cruise's m.o. lately: treatment is underwhelming, trailers look terrible, movie ends up being surprisingly good.

Just saw this at a military base screening. Very entertaining, way more humor than what the trailers give away. Cruise was Cruise-good, which is always a good thing. Blunt was great, no real romantic sub-plot to get in the way. Paxton is heavily featured in the first part of the movie and is extremely entertaining. I enjoy timey-whimsy plot devices, and was not disappointed with this at all. 4 out of 5.
The crowd was half what we had for the Godzilla sneak, but everyone enjoyed it.

The female lead in Oblivion reminded me a lot of Emily Blunt, whoever she actually was.

41 reviews are now in and it's still at 95%. This might be the sleeper hit of the Summer if the box office reflects the high praise. Kinda weird to say a Tom Cruise Summer blockbuster could be a sleeper.
Christopher McQuarrie wrote the screenplay and is directing M:I 5 and also directed a solid Jack Reacher movie. I think he could be a director to look out for at having a promising career.
