Blofeld is a different type of character than Moriarty. Holmes and Moriarty were foils, with Moriarty showing Holmes how he could have been had he gone down a different path, and almost equal abilities. Blofeld isn't that to Bond, but Scaramanga is.

That's definitely a fair criticism. Some poor stunt driver risked his life for an obscene car stunt, and is repaid by it being turned into a children's sketch.

For some reason the "so bad it's good" Roger Moore era jokes tend to entertain me though. I think I need medical attention.

I tend to agree with you here. Especially this one (paraphrased):

"We've got company..."

"No problem; this is a company car!"

Groan-inducing... but strangely hilarious too.

To my knowledge, it's the only movie where Bean dies twice.

As for the poll, I went with Goldfinger. Blofeld might have been my choice if they'd kept Donald Pleasence in the role.

My favorite is still the last line of The Spy Who Loved Me, "Keeping the British end up, sir!"

From that standpoint yes. From the standpoint of the arch enemy it would be Blofeld. Ala Superman/Lex Luthor, Spiderman/Green Goblin.

If I meant only archenemy I wouldn't have specifically name-checked Moriarty.

Greene was the worst, one of the many reasons QoS is one of the worst Bond films.

Almost as bad: Le Chiffre in CASINO ROYALE (2006)--all he does is write bad checks and lose his clients' money on the stock market. What kind of Bond villain is that?!

Re: Your Favorite Bond Villain?

I like Blofeld. He killed Bond's wife and he's been a thorn in Bond's side more than once. The fucker's determined so he's my favorite.

Re: Your Favorite Bond Villain?

I guess if I had to pick an actual villain, it would be Alec Trevelyan.

But I voted "Other" because I always thought thought "Red" Grant was the most realistic bad guy the Bond movies had.

Scaramanga.

It's not only one of my favorite Bond films, but Lee is just so damn great to watch.

I need to rewatch The Man With The Golden Gun. Anyone watched the BD yet? How's it look?

Re: Your Favorite Bond Villain?

I'm on the Scaramanga band wagon. I actually do think the Man with the Golden Gun is a lesser Bond. Honestly, not much in the movie really works at all for me. I found the leading ladies annoying. Nick Nack is a pretty stupid villain sidekick (he's neither intelligent nor physically imposing...what's he there for). The fun house finale is stupid, and who's dumb idea was it to bring back Sheriff Pepper. Yeah, the Bond series really needed more of him.

That having been said, Lee's elegant performance negates almost all of the film's debits for me. I agree with the Bond comparison. He really is like Bond's doppleganger if Bond had made a few different choices. It's just too bad that Lee didn't get a better film around him.

Re: Your Favorite Bond Villain?

Blofeld, Scaramanga, Goldfinger and Trevelyan in that order are my favorites.

TMWTGG seems to be one everyone hates but I love the 1-on-1 premise between Moore and Lee. This is the one Bond film I would like to see redone.

I really liked Trevelyan, but I'm honestly surprised to see all the love he's getting. Figured the old classics would get all the votes.

The delivery was perfect.
What's amazing is Gert Frobe, the German actor who played Auric Goldfinger, couldn't speak English so all of his lines in the movie were dubbed by an uncredited actor named Michael Collins. I think it's one of the best dubbing jobs done in any movie. Even knowing it was dubbed and trying to watch for tell-tale indications of that, I still fall for the illusion that it is Gert Frobe's voice saying the lines.

From what I recall, he was a hit in Live and Let Die at the time of release. (Much like Jaws was popular in The Spy Who Loved Me.) I still remember the theater roaring with laughter during LALD. He was sort of original for the time but that kind of character has been done to death since then. But, I agree, he wasn't need in Golden Gun and didn't help the film.
