This might be a stupid question, but why hasn't a Kickstarter started by the filmmakers for a sequel?
There is a Facebook page & Petition I noticed, but no Kickstarter. Didn't 'Veronica Mars' get a ton of dough for a film through Kickstarter?

They probably wouldn't be able to raise another 45-50 million for a sequel. They could totally get 3-5 million, but that won't come close to fully funding Dredd 2.

One of the producers addressed the Kickstarter thing in two ways:
a.) This would require way way more money than a Veronica Mars movie.
b.) He himself did not feel right asking fans for money.

This just hit Netflix. Watch it if you haven't already.
The movie is a lot of fun. Tight script. Brutal action. With all of the calm, cathartic "drug" sequences in there. The whole movie works really well.
Many movies are too wordy and convoluted for their own good. Dredd is a simple movie that shuts the fuck up and delivers the goods.

Oh God, I understand and almost agree with wm lopez, what is happening
In the case of Dredd, however, it seemed intended to kick off a series of films, as opposed to the films wm lopez mentioned with their origin one-and-done stories.

Dredd was envisioned as the first part of a trilogy. And one of the two proposed sequels was to feature the Dark Judges.
I'm guessing, although a trilogy, each film would be a standalone entry.

Watched this on Netflix. It was okay. Nothing special and not enough story or characters to warrant a trilogy.

Sorry you feel that way, Brack. As for warranting a trilogy, while the first film was indeed a smaller affair, the comic has been going on for decades - there's a vast array of stories and characters to pull from.
Since it's a very weird sci-fi fantasy world, there's all sorts of loopy directions it could go. One of Judge Dredd's recurring villains is a Tyrannosaurus Rex, because reasons.

I thought it was refreshing to have a comic book movie that didn't try to overstuff the first film with origin and fan service. A quick voice over and we're into the action. Instead of trying to be every Judge Dredd story in one film, it was a contained story that ended with the possibility of more to come. I liked that.

Keep in mind that aside from budgetary issues, this was also meant to serve as an introduction to Dredd's world for new viewers. If you put in a T-Rex as a villain, it would have been too weird for most people. The sequels would have more leeway, assuming anyone saw the first one.

Knowing and acknowledging that there are deformed mutants gives way for their introduction in sequels. Although this was very much like The Raid, I still enjoyed the simplistic, straightforward action set piece.

imo it just wasn't very interesting. A few cool scenes here and there, strung together by meh. It's the same reason I didn't like The Raid.

It was pretty black humor if there was any, and I didn't pick up on much of it. Urban was great though, he plays such a one-note character really well.

It's all deadpan humor. For instance, at the end when the Chief Judge asks Dredd what hat happened in Peach Trees he calmly replies "drug bust". All that was missing was a shrug. Then there was the bit when Anderson tells Dredd that Kay is thinking about going for Dredd's gun. The deadpan delivery by Urban is flawless.
