Can you detail the books explanation in a spoiler? You have me curious what the difference is. Thanks.

I recommend reading the book, since the differences make it a compelling read despite knowing the plot of the movie. However, if you want to know, in the book Tesla's machine....
Spoiler:
produces a transported copy and leaves a lifeless husk where the original was for any animate object. Borden legitimately gets backstage at Angeir's show and stops the machine halfway through the "trick", unknowingly causing Angier to end up in two halves: a half-dead original and a mostly incorporeal copy. Borden doesn't get charged with murder, but Angier does blame him for the state he's left in.

You can say the end was stupid, that's fine and a matter of opinion but I'm not sure how anyone can say it was not only obvious, but overly obvious.

Perhaps it was overly obvious the credits would roll at the end of the movie?

Crapping in the Evil Dead remake thread and now this. I'll just chalk it up as having a bad week.

This thread convinced me to get The Prestige on Blu-Ray when it was really cheap around Thanksgiving, and I got around to watching it again last night. I first saw it when it initially came out on DVD. What a great movie. It absolutely holds up over multiple viewings. I feel like I could go back and watch it again very soon, and that's pretty unusual for me.

This is one of those movies I don't get sick of. I could probably watch it twice in the same day and not be bored. It holds up incredibly well.

The ethics, obssesions, and morals of those 2 characters are so fascinating.

Absolutely. At first it seems the setup is that Angier is the "good guy" you are supposed to root for, and Borden is the "bad guy" of the movie, but as Angier gets more and more obsessed with Borden and "winning" the battle of illusions, it gets harder and harder to root for him. In the end, neither is very sympathetic at all, yet the movie doesn't suffer because of it.
