Passion (2013, De Palma) - McAdams, Rapace
Supposedly has no distributor yet - Hopefully it'll be a return to form

Re: Brian De Palma - Passion (2013?) - McAdams, Rapace
The original was great and Rapace is a brilliant actress, so this is at the top of my list. From all of the stills that have been released, this looks to be a wonderfully batshit movie.
Anyone seen Rapace in Babycall? What an astounding performance. |
Re: Brian De Palma - Passion (2013?) - McAdams, Rapace
trailer is definitely DePalma (a good thing).

Re: Brian De Palma - Passion (2013?) - McAdams, Rapace
I'd like to see a De Palma film in my lifetime at a theater. And it'd be great if it's a good one too. This could be it. It's been a while for him.

Brief, but I like what I see. Agree with everyone that I hope this is a return to form, not Black Dahlia 2.

Re: Brian De Palma - Passion (2013?) - McAdams, Rapace
I honestly feel that DePalma's best effort was The Untouchables, and a lot of that was due to a strong cast and great script by David Mamet. This guy is pretty much all visual, like a lesser Ridley Scott. This gives off a Femme Fatale vibe, which I overall didn't really think was good.

Like I said, he's a great director when it comes to visual style. Black Dahlia looked fantastic, but it lacked in the script department. I attribute that to straying too much from the source material. I enjoy Scarface as much at the next guy, but it is still just a guilty pleasure movie when all is said and done. This could be something worthwhile, but right now it's too abstract to tell.
BTW, anyone else notice that when Rachel McAdams is a brunette her character is a good person and when she's blonde the character tends to be somewhat of a bitch? |

The Fury has it's flaws but I love that film.
Kirk Douglas & John Cassavetes in the same film = magic. |
Re: Brian De Palma - Passion (2013?) - McAdams, Rapace
Trailer reminds me of Disclosure with a little Eyes Wide Shut thrown in for good measure. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing.
I do like how the film title is displayed. Appears to be a straight rip off from DePalma's own Body Double trailer. |

What? No love for Raising Cain? Ok, I know many hate it but I still love that movie to this day...just something about it.
Dressed to kill was a great one too. As for this new one....looks like it may be pretty good. De Palma is one weird dude....that's a good thing though. |

Haha. Those two as lovers? Hawt. That's like me taking two dolls and mashing them together and makin' em smooch.

The first De Palma film I was able to see in theaters was The Black Dahlia, which while not the greatest movie, it had it's moments, and was nice to see some De Palma stylish moments on the big screen. I still need to see Femme Fatale which appears to be a love it or hate it film. But the trailer for Passion while brief is pretty cool and definitely has that De Palma touch, that I hope the film itself delivers. Dressed to kill was a great one too.

My first theater for DePalma was Mission:Impossible, which I think was the same case for many of my generation (read became adults in the 90s). The others were the abysmal Mission to Mars, Femme Fatale, and Black Dahlia. None really floored me, though Dahlia did have some of the trademark visuals.

Also, Mission Impossible here as well. I grew up in the era of De Palma being a commercial gun for hire MI and Mission to Mars. It's cool seeing him get away from that.

I'm one of the few that likes Black Dahlia. A lot.

In 2 months and we're just hearing about it? Here's hoping it'll be on VOD, too. I'm VERY interested.
