Re: Brian De Palma - Passion (2013?) - McAdams, Rapace
Based on this review of the French Blu-Ray it sounds like something I might like

Re: Brian De Palma - Passion (2013?) - McAdams, Rapace
I'm still looking forward to seeing it despite the studio releasing it to the dumping ground (otherwise known as the last week of August).

Nothing can top Mission to Mars, sorry.
Except maybe Red Planet. |
Re: Brian De Palma - Passion (2013?) - McAdams, Rapace
fuuuuuck. why in the hell does there have to be dubstep music in like every movie trailer now?
movie looks badass though. the disguised murderer thing is such a de Palma move. love it! and... am i the only one who thinks Body Double is an insanely great time (except for the silly-ass ending) |
Re: Brian De Palma - Passion (2013?) - McAdams, Rapace
Says this will be on Itunes on Aug. 1, a full month before it's released in theaters.
Must not be worth a shit if they're doing that. I'll catch it at some point. |
Re: Brian De Palma - Passion (2013?) - McAdams, Rapace
Got me a copy of this, but we have tons of foot traffic at my place right now, so I cannot watch it just yet.

This must be a dream for the marketing people. Attractive actresses of the moment do lesbian scenes! Thriller stuff!

Look up a guy on the IMDB named tieman64. He has.... Interesting....interpretations...of DePapma films. Kids? No kids, but lots of family coming by. Sporadic foot traffic. Maybe I'll watch it on Monday. |
Re: Brian De Palma - Passion (2013?) - McAdams, Rapace
Finally saw this. I didn't hate it. The last 45 minutes are classic De Palma. I can forgive the shitty aspects of the film because he's getting back to the films he should be making and using his style. Much better than his last 2 films.

Re: Brian De Palma - Passion (2013?) - McAdams, Rapace
Loved this. I think its De Palma's best film since Carlito's Way. I'm not surprised the studio dumped it in the August release graveyard. De Palma doesn't connect all the dots in an easily digestable way. I'm sure it'll find a cult reputation with European audiences. The IMDB boards for this movie are disappointing. I thought it was great, but it doesn't seem like the very few people who have actually seen it appreciated it very much. Noomi Rapace is amazing.

Re: Brian De Palma - Passion (2013?) - McAdams, Rapace
Saw this a few months ago. Thought it was dull and uninteresting. Then again, not much of a fan of European cinema or most of DePalma's work.
I like: Carlito's Way Scarface-just a good guy movie Untouchables-mostly due to great production values and dynamite dialogue by David Mamet I can't really count Mission:Impossible as he did that as a hired gun . |
Re: Brian De Palma - Passion (2013?) - McAdams, Rapace
I want to get this one on BD but don't want to pay more than $10 for it.

Sure you can, it has all of his pet themes about reconstructing something from multiple points of view and his wild camera work and set pieces. Commercial DePalma is still DePalma.

This is now on Netflix for your streaming pleasure.

They have this and the original then, might make an interesting double bill.

Re: Passion (2013, DePalma) - McAdams, Rapace
Nice that it is up on Netflix. I think any DePalma fan with appreciate this, even though its not great. It is a return to style.

Re: Passion (2013, DePalma) - McAdams, Rapace
I just saw this, not bad but DePalma could have done better. The segue between the two states in the film is too jarring but I think he did really well with the twists and his classic framing. I actually bought the score first before I saw the movie and felt that the the beginning theme was too quirky. I did
love the underused theme that plays once in the second scene with Noomi in bed thinking about the ad. Karoline Herfurth was a pleasant surprise in this, would love to see more of her. |
Re: Passion (2013, DePalma) - McAdams, Rapace
Went into this one with low expectations and liked it alot. Classic De Palma technique & themes all over : Split screen, Pino Donaggio score that channels Bernard Herrmann, gorgeous cinematography, deception, voyeurism, perversion, etc........
