Favorite 70's Horror Film?
A seminal decade for this genre. I've included movies that may be considered more suspense than outright horror. Anyway...choose your favorite.

It'd have to be Alien for me. Can't really pinpoint why that one over the many great ones..but...probably the vibe that world gives off.

I voted Alien but it was a tough call. The Exorcist, Omen & Omen II, Dawn of the Dead, Halloween, the 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.....hell, even Phantasm were all good. Alot of good horror movies came out in the 70's. -kd5-

It's a toss up between Dawn of the Dead and Texas Chainsaw. TCM scares me more but Dawn of the Dead is just a fucking blast. I'll give it to Dawn though because the social commentary, the music, the zombies and the glorious bright redness of the blood and gore.

The Exorcist. It doesn't really scare me but it's a damn fine movie and I love watching it. I'd say that Alien is a pretty close second. Also definitely love Jaws and Halloween as well though

Of those? Alien, though I don't really lump it, or Jaws, in the same category as the others.
Overlooking those, I'd probably vote for either Black Christmas or Suspiria (if it were listed ).

Gotta go with The Exorcist. No movie has ever scared me as much as that one did. And once you get past the shocks, it's a very layered story. Even moreso in the novel.

Re: Favorite 70's Horror Film?
Jaws is my favorite movie of all time but I've always considered it more of and "Adventure" than "Horror" but I think I'm in the minority on that.
As far as Horror goes, I loved The Exorcist. It takes the horror genre so seriously that it's hard not to love it, plus it showed things that Hollywood wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole nowadays!
My vote for favorite however, goes for Halloween. It's not perfect and the decades of ripoffs have probably diminished it's shock value to newer audiences but there's just something about it that makes me want to curl up on the couch under a blanket and watch it on a cool Autumn night. I always give it a spin during Halloween season.
One thing is for sure, the 70s fucking ruled when it came to horror!!
