what you think are the best trilogies in films ?

Re: what you think are the best trilogies in films ?
Despite a specific DVD boxset called "Man With No Name" trilogy, I've always called it the Dollars Trilogy too (Even though GOLD is what's being sought after in GBU, we're still talking about money here)
The "Mick Travis" trilogy (If, O Lucky Man, Britannia Hospital) certainly deserves some mention--Even though Anderson said that the films aren't really connected.

It's the 'Man With No Name Trilogy'. The actual title of the film is 'The Magnificent Stranger' - 'Magnifico Straniero'. The whole 'Dollars' thing was a lame ass re-title to appeal to western audiences. Like something the Weinsteins might do today. Leone was not happy about it.
The first time Clint Eastwood saw stuff in industry publications about the international success of some movie about 'Dollars', he didn't even realize it was his movie until he was later told. He later said in interviews 'I knew I was in a movie about a mysterious stranger. That was the central theme, a mysterious man with no name, that had nothing to do with dollars'.
'Dollars' is the incorrect one. Both are widely used.

Look up MAGNIFICENT STRANGER on IMDB and you get this:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0368852/
...a feature version of some "Rawhide" episodes with Eastwood, evidently meant to be released in Europe to capitalize on the success of the Dollars films.
I've heard the trilogy referred to multiple times over the decades as both the Dollars trilogy and the Man with No Name trilogy. Even though Eastwood's character, technically, had a name in each film, in only one (FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE) was it supposedly a real name (Manco). In the others, it's just what one character chooses to call him (the coffin maker calls him "Joe" in FISTFUL; Tuco calls him "Blondie" in THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY); neither is supposed to be his real name.
The ads for the first two films consistently identified the character as the Man with No Name.

Back to the Future
Matrix. I think it doesn't get a fair shake, being the story they wanted to tell, and not necessarily what audiences expected. I actually want to watch them again now...

Wikipedia entry on the "Dollars Trilogy"
A pretty good summary too that even mentions that the idea of it being a trilogy of sorts originated with the distributor and not Sergio Leone.

I beg to differ. This isn't a matter of opinion. Facts are facts. A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS is the English translation of the film's Italian title, PER UN PUGNO DI DOLLARI (For a Fistful of Dollars). FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE is the English translation of the film's Italian title, PER QUALCHE DOLLARO IN PIU.
"Originally called "The Magnificent Stranger", the title wasn't changed to "A Fistful of Dollars" until almost three days before the movie premiered in theaters. In fact, nobody had bothered to inform its main star, Clint Eastwood, of the change, and as a result Eastwood remained virtually unaware of the positive buzz surrounding the movie until an agent pointed it out to him in a Variety Magazine article three weeks later."
The working titles for the other two films referenced The Magnificent Stranger as well.

Lord of the Rings and Nolan's Batman movies.
Dollars Trilogy, Godfather, Die Hard and Lethal Weapon both had weak stuff in there. Haven't seen all the foreign stuff that you guys are mentioning. Both of my choices offer nonstop visceral enjoyment and leave me tired and filled afterwards.
