Richard Zanuck passes away

One of the greatest producers of movies. Can't name them all. Plus he had a famous father.

He brought us a lot of great movies. I loved listening to him speak about Jaws.

Never seen Driving Miss Daisy, but love Jaws. Have also always enjoyed Deep Impact.

Damn.

So, gone from the JAWS family:

- producers Richard Zanuck and David Brown
- editor Verna Fields
- actors Roy Scheider and Robert Shaw
- author Peter Benchley

a little bit of my childhood is chipping away.

Sad news. Obviously an important figure in Hollywood history, and seemed like a pretty nice guy too.

Re: Richard Zanuck passes away

"In 1974, Dick Zanuck and I sat in a boat off Martha's Vineyard and watched the mechanical shark sink to the bottom of the sea. Dick turned to me and smiled. "Gee, I sure hope that's not a sign." That moment forged a bond between us that lasted nearly 40 years. He taught me everything I know about producing. He was one of the most honorable and loyal men of our profession and he fought tooth and nail for his directors. Dick Zanuck was a cornerstone of our industry, both in name and in deed."

Re: Richard Zanuck passes away

Just finished watching The Making of Jaws on the Blu-ray, looked him up and now I feel sad. The list of attendees at his funeral is pretty damn impressive though, he certainly made his mark.

Re: Richard Zanuck passes away

Did anyone see the documentary on TCM last Wed May 8?

Good stuff.

TCM presents a special sneak preview premiere of this TCM Original documentary—an intimate portrait of the great filmmaker, using recent interviews with Zanuck himself, home movies, and archival film clips and stills to shed light on one of Hollywood’s most successful careers.

Adding to this inside look at the rise of the new Hollywood are interviews with Zanuck collaborators like Clint Eastwood, Johnny Depp, Steven Spielberg and Tim Burton.

Laurent Bouzereau directed the feature documentary Roman Polanski: A Film Memoir and is the director, writer and producer of the acclaimed television series A Night at the Movies from Amblin TV/Turner Classic Movies

Re: Richard Zanuck passes away

Yeah I just finished the TCM documentary about Zanuck. Really good documentary. Covered practically everything you wanted to know about his life and career. Some good interviews as well.

Sad that he died 3 days after watching it.

Laurent Bouzereau who wrote, produced and directed the documentary has made alot of long feature length documentaries for DVD special features.
