damn...you stole my thunder...but total to including this. it's usually Marty or Wild Bunch, but Bad Day at Black Rock is an under rated masterpiece, and as always Ernest was phenomenal in it. Truly a one of a kind actor and all around decent human being. He will be sorely missed.

This is one I won't say "holy shit he died?!??!" during the Oscars next year. This one hurts.

Be watching 'Poliziotto superpił' aka 'Super Fuzz' aka 'Super Snooper'

Always wondered who would go first, him or Eli Wallach ...

Amazing how he kept going and seemed to never miss a beat in front of the camera at his age.

He's been one of my favorite actors since I saw The Poseidon Adventure as a kid. A real legend.

The most depressing part about this is the way that I learned about it...announced on reddit as "RIP Mermaid Man" (apparently, that's a character he voices on "Spongebob Squarepants").

An immensly talented actor and for all his performances and talent, an even better man by all accounts. I *really* enjoyed every performance of his I ever saw. Always earthy, intelligent and honest. RIP Dutch.

Just watched this again Wednesday night, and was talking about how much fun Borgnine was with my brother yesterday. We hated him as kids thanks to his role in Emperor of the North, but as an adult I came to appreciate him and all of his great performances. His interview in Cinema Retro was a hoot. His passing is sad news, but he had a good long run and apparently had a blast doing it.

A long life and a fascinating body of work with plenty of highlights. He will be remembered for a long time as his work is shown again and again world-wide.

Re: Ernest Borgnine dead at 95.

He was in a lot of great movies, but I think my first exposure to Ernest Borgnine was in the TV series Airwolf. I learned about his movie career later.

Big Guy.

Re: Ernest Borgnine dead at 95.

What a great run he had. If he'd done nothing but VERA CRUZ, BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK, MARTY, THE VIKINGS, THE DIRTY DOZEN, THE WILD BUNCH, and EMPEROR OF THE NORTH, he'd be leaving a great legacy. But he's so memorable in so many others, including FROM HERE TO ETERNITY, VIOLENT SATURDAY, THE LAST COMMAND, JUBAL, PAY OR DIE, BARABBAS, THE FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX, THE LEGEND OF LYLAH CLARE, THE ADVENTURERS, THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE, HUSTLE, CONVOY, THE BLACK HOLE, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, GATTACA, RED, etc., etc., etc. I was lucky to see so many of these on the big screen.

When he won the Oscar for Best Actor in 1955 (for MARTY), he beat out Spencer Tracy, James Cagney, Frank Sinatra, and James Dean. Now that's what I call competition!

A heck of an actor and will surely be missed. Not sure why, but he would come to Milwaukee every year and dress up as a clown in the Circus Parade.

Sadly, I was just remarking to someone how hardy he was for 95. A great American actor and an even greater personality. R.I.P.

Re: Ernest Borgnine dead at 95.

He had a great run. A long career.

'Marty' changed a lot of things in films. It was a turning point. After that the film industry started to make movies about real people, with human stories.

Pretty cool

Oscar-winning actor Ernest Borgnine has died at the age of 95. For years, Borgnine was a fixture at Milwaukee's Great Circus Parade.

Milwaukee is a long way from the fame and fortune of Hollywood but for Ernest Borgnine, Milwaukee was very special place.

"Coming to Milwaukee is like coming home every year and my wife and I look forward to it very much," Borgnine said.

If the circus parade was in town, there was a good chance Ernie and his wife Tova were working the crowd, waiving and laughing.

We are having the best time," laughed Tova Borgnine.

Ernie first showed up as a clown in the 1970s. Circus Parade promoter, the late Ben Barkin, invited Borgnine to Milwaukee after seeing him on NBC's Tonight Show with Johnny Carson saying he would love to play a clown. The rest they say is history.

"Where else can you find a parade like this?" Borgnine said. "I mean this is the parade of the year."

Borgnine would also visit Children's' Hospital while in town. But, it was his big smile and big shoes that will bring back memories for parade fans.

He was the grand clown but he seemed like the guy who was having the grandest time.

"Ernest Borgnine loved Milwaukee," Mayor Tom Barrett said Sunday night in a statement. "He was generous with his time and gracious to his fans. In return, Milwaukee loved Ernie. He will be missed from eternity."

You left off my favorite scene performance.
In JESUS OF NAZARETH he plays a roman soldier who asks Jesus to heal his servant. The way E.B. delivered his lines is wonderful.
