This is going to make some fair amount of money. I want to see it, and my 4yo kid who is big into robots will want to see it I am sure.

Re: Big Hero 6 (Disney's animated Marvel film)
Sweet! It comes out exactly 3 weeks after my birthday
I wasn't blown away by the trailer. It seemed like it was trying a bit too hard to be cutesy/endearing, but I'll remain cautiously optimistic. Disney Animation has been on a massive upswing since 2009.
Also: I've heard tell that they're playing down the Marvel association in order to promote the film in Walt Disney World, in which no Marvel characters can be referenced in any of the theme parks. Don't know how true that is, and it seems a bit far-fetched. Whatever monies they can generate within WDW pale in comparison to those generated by the Majestic Marketing Might of the Merry Marvel Moniker!

When Marvel released details of its November 2015 releases earlier this week, there was a surprising absence of Big Hero 6-related material despite that month’s release of the Disney animated movie based on the Marvel characters. If that seems strange, it gets moreso: the publisher has also decided to bench the characters to coincide with the movie’s release.
Not only is Marvel not planning any reprints or new material to tie in with the Disney movie released November 7, but it turns out that the characters aren’t scheduled to make appearances in any other Marvel comic titles in the foreseeable future, either. A spokesperson for Marvel confirmed that it has "no plans" for the property when contacted by THR, following up on an earlier report from Newsarama.
The last time the characters appeared in a Marvel title was 2012, when the team showed up in an issue of Amazing Spider-Man to help defeat Doctor Octopus. Around the same time, the publisher released a collection of the group’s earlier appearances to tie in with then-contemporary rumors of the Disney project, which was officially announced a year later.
Unusually, while Marvel isn’t publishing any Big Hero 6 material, that doesn’t mean that there won’t be a comic book tie-in to the project. Since the beginning of this month, Japanese publisher Kodansha has been serializing a story in its anthology series Magazine Special focusing on the robotic character Baymax seen in initial trailers for the movie. Traditionally, Kodansha has enjoyed a close relationship with Marvel’s parent company Disney, sponsoring Tokyo Disneyland and releasing manga versions of other Disney animated projects, including The Lion King, Beauty & The Beast and Frozen.
In the U.S., Disney subsidiary Random House has a line of Big Hero 6 material planned for publication around the release of the movie.
The lack of Marvel material may point to the company not maintaining full financial participation over the property due to the partnership with Disney Animation. As the Newsarama report points out, Marvel executive editor Tom Brevoort has previously suggested that Marvel prioritizes properties it has complete control over. As he wrote on his Q&A Tumblr, “If you had two things, and on one you earned 100% of the revenues from the efforts that you put into making it, and the other you earned a much smaller percentage for the same amount of time and effort, you’d be more likely to concentrate more heavily on the first, wouldn’t you?”

Re: Big Hero 6 (Disney's animated Marvel film)
i think the only reason they market this as a Disney animated project rather than a Marvel one is because the Disney name has a history and quality behind it. if you look up any Marvel animated project, you'll see all the direct to video shit they've put out over the years through Lionsgate. i don't think this has anything to do with distancing themselves from Marvel, but rather just capitalizing on the name that means the most to movie-goers.

The trailer for it that aired before GOTG mentioned that it was based on the Marvel comic. That's the ONLY time I've seen it advertised, and it was probably only because of the audience.

HUGE missed opportunity. HUGE! This should have ties with the other films and be featured on Agents of Shield. I mean what are they thinking?

I seriously doubt anybody would even associate it with with the majority of the crappy DTV Marvel animated movies that have come out. It sounds more to me like Marvel may have wanted this done a certain way but Disney refused, so they decided to change gears.
Having the Marvel name on there can only help ticket sales at this point.

Re: Big Hero 6 (Disney's animated Marvel film)
I wonder if Marvel already has data that shows their other properties hasn't had a significant boost on the comic side despite the movies, and just figure it isn't worth trying to jump start this franchise in that way. Or maybe Disney has their own plans for marketing the movie and they were the ones that felt there wasn't a need for Marvel to jump in.
The financial participation thing in that article makes less sense to me given that Marvel's money would be essentially Disney's money.

There's a nice article and overview on io9 too about the basic premise of the movie, plot overview (some spoilers), relation to the comic, and the characters.

A longer preview has replaced the GotG preview that was inhabiting the Captain EO theater. It looks fun... and I got a kite at the end as I exited. They really do need to show a film in that theater with full 4D effects.
