That is before the actual credits start rolling - just saw an advance screening and had the version with NO post credit sequence. I'm seeing it again Friday in IMAX so I hope it has the stinger attached.

Going to see it later today after i finish work. I have a feeling that this movie will gross easy $90 million opening weekend. I think Variety reporting $65 million is way under. No real competition for this movie over the weekend and kids still not at school. I am really looking forward to this movie and know it will be a blast.

I don't get this either, it has already been given a sequel and I don't own stock in either Marvel or Disney so...


Although I do wish it would out gross The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.

Regarding the after credits...

It's nice to see good movies be financially rewarded and well received. And while a sequel is already in the works, a large take for this can mean things like bigger budget for the next movie, or less incentive for the studio to tinker or make changes for the sole purpose of increasing the audience. And in the bigger picture, a sci fi space action movie like this succeeding can pave the way for more movies of this kind, or even prove to Marvel that more obscure comics can work as movies.

Space Opera films that do well in regards to box office, will be better for that genre and seeing more movies set out in space.

Spider Man doing extremely well helped lay the groundwork for X-men/Marvels.

Naw, I do care. I want this film to do well. It's a bitch that good genre films like Dredd and John Carter are deemed failures because of their take but dammitt, this thread has been taken over by stupid B.O. Predictions. It just bothers the hell outta me.

Sure, off and on discussion and predictions which seems natural, but I guess me and you have different ideas of what "taking over" a thread constitutes. Anyway, not sure why it's a handful of posts is so irritable when you admit that you care about it yourself. Sorry, but a few of us like discussing it and I imagine there will be more discussion as the film actually releases

UPDATED: The galactic superhero tentpole scores the top Thursday night of the year, besting the $10.2 million earned in early April by fellow Marvel title "Captain America: The Winter Soldier."

James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy earned an outstanding $11.2 million as it began rolling out in North American theaters Thursday night, by far the best showing of any tentpole this year and boosting hopes that it could eclipse the $69.2 million domestic debut of The Bourne Ultimatum to nab the top August opening of all time, not accounting for inflation.

Guardians of the Galaxy zoomed past the $10.2 million earned in early April by fellow Marvel Studios tentpole Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which went on to gross $95 million for the weekend. Guardians' weekend outcome will depend upon how front-loaded it is, and whether it plays beyond hardcore fans.

Overseas, Guardians also did big business as it began rolling out Thursday, nabbing $11 million in a handful of markets, including $3.2 million in Russia and $2.3 million in the U.K.

That's great news, but it seems odd to me, as I've been to every comic book movie that opened this year on a Thursday night, and this was easily the most sparsely attended of them all. Dunno what's up with the people where I live.
