This movie has some cute moments, but never really came together for me. Being an 80s baby I should have loved this, but instead I was left feeling pretty ho-hum about the movie. I think I fell victim to the same issue another poster had, in that I was expecting more game jumping, so I was a bit disappointed when things settled in Sugar Rush. But more than than, the writing and jokes just didn't feel as smart as better animated movies.

I liked it, but it didn't enthrall me. Lots of quick references, but even at that, I wanted more, and good point, I would have liked more game jumping. Old school arcade, FPS, and cutesy racer. I'll admit I didn't see a certain thing coming toward the end.
It was cute and I liked seeing the nods to classics, but would have liked more. It didn't have the 'heart' of something like Monsters Inc. It wasn't as bad as some though. 6.5 or 7 out of 10.

Maybe that was in there too, but I definitely saw "Jenkins Lives" or something with Jenkins.

I didn't have an issue with that in the movie, so no, not the movie that completely contradicted itself.

Saw this on Saturday with the 4 1/2 year old. We both enjoyed ourselves. The introduction and all the set up are excellent and very funny, but the second half of the film has major story problems. Once they get to Sugar Rush the plot just comes to a grinding halt, then completely changes gears, becomes way too talky, Ralph's story suddenly becomes subordinate to Vanelope's, the whole thing just goes completely off the rails. Reeks of multiple re-writes. Great joke writing, bad story writing.

Son and I seen this Friday, while my wife and daughter went to Twilight. It was alright. Just like mentioned above, it was great until he got stuck in Sugar Rush. The rest of the story was the little girls. I didnt mind the little girl, but really want Ralph to keep jumping from game to game, like I thought the movie was suppose to be about. But the design of the land in Sugar Rush kinda made up for the rest.

I liked it but was a little disappointed after hearing many raves. It didn't help that I didn't videogame between the Missile Command and Halo eras so I missed a lot of references, but the story fell flat for me, and it probably was the Sugar Land section that did the most damage.

Fail for our local paper for calling it out as a Pixar film on their front page.

I've played one in the arcade. I had no idea there was a 2.

I agree, to me the movie fell flat on it's face in this respect.

More specifically if I recall correctly...

Spoiler:
Candy tells Ralph that Vanellope is a glitch, and that if she's allowed to race and wins then she would become a permanent racer. Candy mentions that if people play the game and see her glitching, they would report it as a broken game and the arcade would be shut down dooming everyone in the game. While other characters could escape out of the game to the train station thing, Vanellope couldn't because of her glitch status. Ralph destroys the car to prevent all that from happening.

My question is
Spoiler:
what happened to the original King Candy if he was the imposter from the other game the whole time?

Considering that he rewired some of the game code, maybe Turbo did the same to the original King Candy?

Another nice touch I rarely see mentioned... the song "Wreck-It, Wreck-It Ralph" in the end credits
Spoiler:
is done by Buckner & Garcia, who did the novelty classic "Pac Man Fever" in 1982.

Re: Disney: Wreck-It Ralph

I was in the Disney Store at the mall the other day and I had a cynical epiphany about why the movie falls apart in the second act. I saw all the merchandise that they are selling related to the Sugar Rush game. Each little girl with her distinct look and personality and her candy car...it's Pixar's Cars for girls! Cars has been a merchandising explosion for Disney but it doesn't appeal to little girls. The cynic in me says some Disney hack insisted that the script be rewritten to HEAVILY emphasis Sugar Rush which ultimately harmed the film.

I am not into video games, but I loved this film. The innovative design of the sugarland made up for kinda of a girly look. Vanellope was great, as were Felix and Ralph.

I thought Sara Silverman did a good job in this movie. Which I didn't expect. My boys are close to being too old for this movie but they did enjoy it.
